New York City Campus Closed: Tuesday, March 17

Due to infrastructure work at 1855 Broadway, all buildings on the New York City campus will be closed on Tuesday, March 17. Employees should work remotely. It is anticipated that all buildings EXCEPT 1855 Broadway will reopen with full services on Wednesday, March 18. We will update information as soon as it becomes available.

Parkinson’s Center

The Adele Smithers Parkinson’s Disease Treatment Center was created with one goal in mind: to improve the quality of life for patients and their families suffering with this disease. As a student, you’ll learn how practitioners across several medical specializations collaborate to treat patients with Parkinson’s disease. You’ll also see firsthand the positive impact of technology supported by interdisciplinary partnerships with other New York Tech programs, government agencies, and the healthcare industry.

Established in 1997, the center treats 250 people annually. Services offered include:

  • Clinical psychology
  • Genetic counseling
  • Neurology consultation
  • Occupational therapy
  • Osteopathic manipulation
  • Physical therapy
  • Primary care
  • Speech therapy
  • Wellness program

  • The effects of the natural amino acid tyrosine on blood pressure changes associated with Parkinson’s disease.
  • The disease’s effect on arm movements and reflexes.
  • Investigation of the possible association between Parkinson’s disease and acne.
  • The role of baseline depression and education in patients’ use of various therapies to enhance their quality of life.
  • The relationship between eye movements of people with Parkinson’s disease and handwriting.
  • The use of a motorized walker to reduce symptoms of the disease.
  • Defining the genetic variations that contribute to the risk of developing Parkinson’s disease .
