Amanda Golden, Ph.D., associate professor of English, Department of Humanities, gave a talk on "Editing Sylvia Plath" on October 23, 2022, as a part of the Sylvia Plath Festival, held in Hebden Bridge, England.

Kate E. O'Hara

CAS/ Humanties/Interdisciplinary Studies

Kate E. O’Hara, Ph.D., associate professor of interdisciplinary studies, presented "Listening with Our Eyes: Taking Action through Photovoice" at the virtual Photovoice Worldwide International Conference: 30 Years of Photovoice, on October 20, 2022. In her interactive presentation, O’Hara shared the design and implementation of an undergraduate student research project, based on a Photovoice framework. Through the philosophical lenses of relational and critical pedagogy, student examples were shared. The presentation also addressed aspects of Photovoice as a method to inform the fields of both qualitative and quantitative research, countering privileged scholarship, and centering marginalized voices.

Anya Martin

School of Architecture & Design / Architecture

Alessandro Melis, Ph.D., IDC Foundation Endowed Chair and professor in the School of Architecture and Design, spoke about an innovative and unique project, the Stella Maris hospital in Pisa, Italy, designed by his studio Heliopolis 21, exclusively intended for the treatment of neuropsychiatric pathologies of the developmental age, at a screening of the short film Pin whose protagonist is an adult with autism, on October 19, 2022. He was joined by Athina Papadopoulou, Ph.D., assistant professor of architecture, an expert in health and design whose research is on inclusive design, affective computing, and therapeutic applications for autism.

Diana Moronta, M.S.L.I.S., presented her work "Building community as resistance in LIS," for the Equity and Mentorship program at Metropolitan New York Library Council(METRO) on October 7, 2022 in New York City.

Babak D. Beheshti, Ph.D., dean of New York Tech College of Engineering and Computing Sciences, had his article titled “A guide to networks for IoT healthcare devices” featured on TechTarget – IoT Agenda on October 3, 2022.

Diana Moronta

Library

Diana Moronta, M.S.L.I.S., had her book, Practicing Social Justice in Libraries: Strategies, Action, and Self Care in Library Work, co-edited with Alyssa Brissett, published by Routledge on September 30, 2022. The volume provides strategies, tools, and resources to library and information workers and students who wish to drive change in their communities and incorporate social justice into their everyday practice. With contributors from a diverse group of librarians, who have experience working in different types of institutions and roles, the book showcases the actions information professionals, largely from historically marginalized groups, are taking to create a more socially responsible environment for themselves and their communities.

Colleen Kirk

School of Management, Department of Management and Marketing

Colleen P. Kirk, D.P.S., associate professor of marketing, was interviewed on a podcast on the Quikly Marketing Blog on September 29, 2022, about her recent research on consumer narcissism, published in the Journal of Business Research. Her research is the first in marketing to examine the divergent impacts of the "bright" and "dark" sides of narcissism in consumer behavior.

Maryam Ravan

College of Engineering & Computing Sciences, NYIT

Maryam Ravan, Ph.D., assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering, in collaboration with colleagues from Stanford University and McMaster University, has published an article, "A Robust eLORETA Technique for Localization of Brain Sources in the Presence of Forward Model Uncertainties," in IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering, a peer-reviewed publication, on September 22, 2022.
