Chinmoy Bhattacharjee, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Physics at New York Institute of Technology. He received his B.S. in Physics from Columbia University and his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Texas at Austin, where he conducted research at the Institute for Fusion Studies.

His research lies at the intersection of relativistic plasma physics, high-energy astrophysics, and gravitational physics, with emphasis on plasma dynamics near compact objects, magnetogenesis and vorticity generation, Beltrami-Bernoulli relaxation, and multiscale plasma structures. He is also interested in physics education and evidence-based learning assessment, including the use of the Force Concept Inventory (FCI) to measure conceptual learning gains in introductory physics.

At New York Tech, Bhattacharjee has contributed to the undergraduate physics program through teaching across the curriculum, development of the Modern Physics Laboratory, undergraduate mentoring, and support of the reestablished physics major. He also serves as faculty coordinator and host for New York Tech’s collaboration with the Long Island Physics Teachers Association (LIPTA). His teaching has been recognized at both Rutgers University-Newark and New York Tech. He is active in professional service as a referee for several physics journals and has served as a book reviewer for Cambridge University Press, including The Cosmos: Astronomy in the New Millennium by Jay M. Pasachoff and Alex Filippenko.
