Mathematics is more than numbers—it’s the foundation of innovation and problem-solving. Our Applied and Computational Mathematics major empowers you to transform theory into tools that shape technology, science, and society. Through research, advanced computation, and real-world applications, you’ll develop the skills to tackle complex challenges and make a lasting impact.
New York Tech Department of Mathematics offers a Bachelor of Science in Applied and Computational Mathematics with two concentrations:
Computational Mathematics & Data Science
Mathematical Modeling
We also offer a 4+1 Accelerated B.S. in Applied and Computational Mathematics leading to an M.S. in Data Science. Our 16-credit Mathematics Minor is recommended for mechanical, electrical, computer science, and biomedical engineering majors.
Our major goes beyond theory, combining mathematics, science, and computational skills to solve real-world problems in science and engineering. Upper-level courses feature project-based learning, and students are encouraged to collaborate with faculty on research in areas of shared interest. Our graduates enter the job market with cutting-edge expertise, paving the way for successful careers.
By building a strong foundation in applied and computational mathematics—through tools like multivariable calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, statistics, and machine learning—combined with knowledge of the sciences and computer programming, you’ll be prepared to tackle real-world problems and deliver practical results. Studying mathematics puts you in the driver’s seat to impact future advances in today’s rapidly changing world.
Degrees & Minors
Our dynamic degrees and minors in the Department of Mathematics at New York Tech offer cutting-edge skills in computational methods, mathematical modeling, and data science, preparing you for success in graduate studies and diverse careers.
New York Tech is dedicated to your success in mathematics by providing professional development opportunities and student support resources, including a SIAM Student Chapter, Math Day, Math Boot Camp, and the Math Resource Center for personalized support.
Immerse yourself in the world of mathematics and discover its endless possibilities. Get insights from expert faculty on the many applications of math knowledge, view student poster presentations and talks on cutting-edge topics, and enjoy interactive math games.
SIAM Student Chapter
The Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) Student Chapter at New York Tech promotes applied mathematics, computational science, and data science to young mathematicians and scientists. SIAM Chapter members develop networks with faculty outside of the classroom, share research ideas, learn about careers, and develop leadership skills.
At both New York campuses, the Mathematics Resource Center (MRC) will help you to enhance your math skills. The MRC offers tutoring for all courses, ensuring expert guidance and support for your math learning journey.
Immerse yourself in the world of mathematics and discover its endless possibilities. Get insights from expert faculty on the many applications of mathematics, engage in talks on cutting-edge topics, and present a poster on your research.
