College of Engineering & Computing Sciences, NYITMaryam Ravan, Ph.D., assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering, in collaboration with colleagues from Stanford University and McMaster University, has published an article, "EEG Biomarkers to Predict Response to Sertraline and Placebo Treatment in Major Depressive Disorder,” in IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering, a peer-reviewed publication, on September 12, 2022.
Anya Martin
School of Architecture & Design / ArchitectureAlessandro Melis, Ph.D., IDC Foundation Endowed Chair and professor in the School of Architecture and Design, spoke at the New City Festival, organized by the Michelucci Foundation, on September 10, 2022, in Fiesole, Italy. Melis was also featured in an article, "New Town Festival, social justice is the real antidote to the environmental crisis," published by STAMP Toscana on the same date.
Robert Cody
School of Architecture and DesignRobert Cody, B.Arch, associate professor of architecture, and Angela Amoia, M.Arch, associate professor of architecture,\n published a new book, published by Routledge, on September 9, 2022, entitled Alvar Aalto and the Future of Architecture. This new edition looks to Alvar Aalto as the primary protagonist for channeling discussions related to history, theory, design, construction, technology, and sensory topics. The work of Aalto and selected contemporary architects, along with computer modeling software, showcases the importance of comprehensive design.
Ron Goldberg
Office of Enrollment Management and Strategic CommunicationsRon Goldberg, web content editor in the Office of Enrollment Management and Strategic Communications, had his book, Boy with the Bullhorn: A Memoir and History of ACT UP New York, published by Fordham University Press on September 6, 2022. The book uses Goldberg's own story—the activist education of a well-intentioned, if slightly naive, nice gay Jewish theater queen—to tell the larger chronological history of AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power (ACT UP), the grassroots AIDS activist organization that confronted politicians, scientists, drug companies, religious leaders, the media, and an often uncaring public to successfully change the course of the AIDS epidemic.

Enrollment Management and Strategic CommunicationsRon Goldberg, web content editor in the Office of Enrollment Management and Strategic Communications, was the featured interview on segment of TMZ Live on September 1, 2022. Goldberg discussed the government response to monkeypox and how it compared with the response to the AIDS epidemic, as well as AIDS activism and his new book, Boy with the Bullhorn: A Memoir and History of ACT UP New York.

HumaniesEdward Guiliano, Ph.D., president emeritus and professor of English in the Department of Humanities, published his “review” of George Eliot’s Middlemarch “Middlemarch at 150,” in the Dickens Studies Annual: Essays on Victorian Fiction, Vol. 53, no. 2, 2022, pp. 299-303. The article, published on September 1, 2022, celebrated the occasion of the novel's 150th anniversary of publication. Guilano's Lewis Carroll: The Worlds of His Alices was reviewed earlier in the year by Jan Susina in Victorian Studies, Spring 2022 (64:3), 499-502.

ITSBecky Frieden, senior director, enterprise applications and decision support systems, was interviewed by The Tambellini Group, the leading independent technology research, analyst, and advisory firm dedicated exclusively to higher education, on August 12, 2022, as part of their "Women in Tech" series. In her interview, Frieden talks about how she leverages the intersection of technology and people to make good business decisions and to make students' lives better.

Niharika Nath, Ph.D., professor of biological and chemical sciences, published a book chapter entitled "Undergraduate Research in Medicine" with co-author Sara A. Myers, in The Cambridge Handbook of Undergraduate Research, on August 11, 2022.
Karen Vahey
EnrollmentKaren Vahey, Ed.D., dean of admissions and financial aid, has been selected to serve on the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) Ad Hoc Committee on Centering Students in the Development of Equitable Admission Practices for the 2022-2023 academic year. The appointment was announced on August 10, 2022. This committee will be tasked with helping NACAC operationalize the recommendations included in the NACAC-NASFAA report, "Toward a More Equitable Future for Postsecondary Access," focusing on the inclusion of students in the development of college admission counseling policies and practices, particularly where questions of equity are involved. The committee will create a framework for institutions to use in identifying student populations for inclusion, structuring conversations with students, and integrating student recommendations into policy and practice.
