Shinu Kuriakose, DHSc, PA-C, associate professor of physician assistant studies, presented at the 2021 New York State Society of Physician Assistants conference,, held in Saratoga Springs, NY, on October 8-10, 2021. Kuriakose spoke on "Personality Disorders: A Maladaptive Paradigm," and "Mental Health First Aid: CPR for the Soul." Along with his colleagues from Hofstra and Stony Brook he also presented on their ongoing research into "The Impact on PA Student Mental Health Among\n3 NY PA Programs During the COVID Pandemic."

Jonathan Goldman, Ph.D., professor of English, Department of Humanities, was named President of the James Joyce Society, on October 7, 2021.

Batu K. Chalise, Ph.D., assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering, was awarded 2021 IEEE Region 1 Technological Innovation (Academic) Award on October 4, 2021, for his technical contributions in signal processing and optimization for joint radar sensing and communications.

Jamel Vanderburg, M.P.A., adjunct instructor of interdisciplinary studies, was featured as part of the second cohort of Uplift, a visual publication that features black male educators who inspire youth in all levels of education, on October 1, 2021.

Deborah Y. Cohn, Ph.D., interim dean of the School of Management and professor of marketing, presented “Connecting with a Remote Audience: Teaching and Presenting,” at the IABE-2021 New York – Online Conference, on October 1, 2021.

Kate E. O'Hara

Interdisciplinary Studies

Kate E. O’Hara, Ph.D., associate professor of interdisciplinary studies, presented "Interconnected and Emerging" at the 6th Annual International Conference on Critical Autoethnography in Melbourne, Australia on September 30, 2021. In her session, O’Hara presented virtually about the interconnectedness of her shared experiences with her undergraduate students as they emerged from a global pandemic. She spoke of personal context, juxtaposed and connected to cultural, political, and social understandings. O’Hara also asked participants to explore their own socially constructed concepts of space, place, and time in relation to “normalcy.”

Adrienne McNally

Career Success and Experiential Education

Adrienne McNally, M.S., director of experiential education, was presented with the 2021 award for Outstanding Experiential Education Program by the National Society of Experiential Education (NSEE) on September 27, 2021. The award recognizes an outstanding K-12 or higher education institution that has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to experiential education in their classrooms or on their campuses. Founded in 1971, the NSEE is a nonprofit membership organization composed of educators, businesses, and community leaders that strives to cultivate educators who effectively use experiential education as an integral part of personal, professional, civic, and global learning.
