Jason Van Nest
ArchitectureJason Van Nest, M.Arch, associate professor of architecture, delivered an address, BIM (Revit) for Lighting Designers – Part 2, virtually, on February 15, 2023. It was the second of a three-part consolatory series of addresses on the ways that new Building Information Modeling workflows are changing the design industry in general, and lighting designer's roles specifically. Van Nest has also recently been elected to the society's IES BIM Committee to advance these contributions into the organization's technical documents.
Milan Toma
College of Osteopathic MedicineMilan Toma, Ph.D., professor of biological and chemical sciences, published his article, "Cushioning Effect of Conventional Padded Helmets on Interaction between Cerebrospinal Fluid and Brain after a Low-Speed Head Impact," in Applied Sciences, a peer-reviewed, open access journal, on February 14, 2023. Toma's work may have implications for helmet design in the future.
Ron Goldberg
Office of Enrollment Management and Strategic CommunicationsRon Goldberg, web content editor in the Office of Enrollment Management and Strategic Communications, had his article, "Here's how an 'Army of Lovers' fought AIDS & changed health care in America," published on February 14, 2023, on LGBTQ Nation as part of their Authentic Voices of Pride series. The article features a discussion with fellow author and ACT UP comrade K.M. Soehnlein about the staggering losses and remarkable victories from their time on the frontlines of the AIDS crisis.
Mugdha Padalkar
Biomedical sciencesMugdha Padalkar, Ph.D., a postdoctoral fellow and team member in the biological sciences lab of Olga Savinova, Ph.D., published a peer-reviewed article, "Paradoxical reduction of plasma lipids and atherosclerosis in mice with adenine-induced chronic kidney disease and hypercholesterolemia," in the journal Frontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine on February 9, 2023.

Career Success and Experiential EducationAmy Bravo, M.A., senior director of international and experiential education, presented on Competencies, Curriculum & Career Readiness: Innovative Methods Incorporating NACE Core Competencies into a Centralized Internship Program at the MNYCCPOA Winter 2023 Conference on February 3, 2023, via Zoom.
Shinu KURIAKOSE
School of Health ProfessionsShinu Kuriakose, DHSc, PA-C, associate professor of physician assistant studies, published an article, "Virtual Physician Assistant Program Interviews: Faculty and Applicant Perspectives," in the Journal of Physician Assistant Studies on February 1, 2023. The article was written in collaboration with Stony Brook and Hofstra Universities.

School of Health Professions / Interdisciplinary Health SciencesAmerigo Rossi, Ed.D., associate professor of interdisciplinary health sciences, recently published an article, "Exploring the Association Between the Healthcare Design Elements and Physician Well-Being: A Scoping Review," in Health Environments Research & Design Journal, a peer-reviewed publication, on February 1, 2023.
Batu Chalise
College of Electrical Engineering and Computing SciencesBatu K. Chalise, Ph.D., assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering, with his former graduate student, Daniel Wong, now with Northrup Grumman, published their paper entitled "Enhancing Distributed Radar Detection Performance with Reliable Communications'' in IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems on January 31, 2023.
Evan Shieh
ArchitectureEvan Shieh, M.AUD., adjunct professor of architecture, received a 2023 AIAS/ACSA New Faculty Teaching Award for Part-Time Faculty on January 27, 2023. The award from the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) recognizes demonstrated excellence and innovation in teaching performance during the formative years of an architectural teaching career. Award-winning professors inspire and challenge students, contribute to the profession’s knowledge base, and extend their work beyond the borders of academia into practice and the public sector.
