The mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, opened the event.

Francine Glazer
academic affairs / CTLFrancine Glazer, Ph.D.,, associate provost for educational innovation, was invited to participate in a National Academies conference held December 5, 2023, in Washington, D.C., titled, Equitable and Effective Teaching in Undergraduate STEM Education: A Framework for Institutions, Educators and Disciplines. She spoke at a panel discussion providing feedback on a draft framework for "Equitable and Effective Teaching in Undergraduate STEM Education: A Framework for Institutions, Educators and Disciplines." The panel discussion was titled "Supporting the Instructional Workforce."

School of Architecture and DesignDongsei Kim, M.Des., assistant professor of architecture, had his capstone thesis architectural design studio "Architecture & Applied Utopias: Envisioning a Resilient Sag Harbor," which is closely working with the community was mentioned in the WLIW-FM's Long Island Morning Edition on December 8, 2023, and in the Sag Harbor Express on December 5, 2023.

Biomedical SciencesGonzalo Otazu Aldana, Ph.D.,, assistant professor in the College of Osteopathic Medicine, presented a Journal Club Webinar for The Scientist, a quarterly magazine, on December 4, 2023, titled ""Robust odor identification in novel olfactory environments in mice." He spoke about his recent research on olfaction in a mouse model of autism spectrum disorder.
Andreas Theodoridis
SOAD / ArchitectureAndreas Theodoridis, Ph.D., assistant professor in the architecture department, organized the Climate Change and Tourism conference that was was held December 1 to 3, 2023, at the Center of Mediterranean Architecture (CAM) location in Greece. Theodoridis organized it on behalf of the CAM Advisory Board. He also moderated and participated in sessions with various professionals, including architects, public servants, legislators, hoteliers, and policymakers, who are related to the country's tourism and architecture industries.
Claude Gagna
CAS/Biological and Chemical SciencesClaude E. Gagna, Ph.D., professor of biological and chemical sciences, was awarded an Emerging Technology Innovation Award from New York Tech’s emerging technology group for Molecular Devices GenePix 4000B Fluorescent Two-Color DNA Microarray scanner. The instrument will be used for the development of next-generation DNA and RNA microarrays with NYIT students.

Felipe Henao
Student Engagement and DevelopmentOn November 20, 2023, Felipe Henao, Ed.D., dean of students, published an article titled “Policies and Initiatives to Address Collegiate Food Insecurity” for the Encyclopedia of Sustainable Technologies. It has now been published online as a stand-alone chapter in the prestigious Reference Collection in “Reference Module in Earth Systems and Environmental Sciences.”
