Transfer Students: Your Next Steps

Congratulations on your acceptance! We look forward to seeing you on campus. Mark your calendar for the first day of classes:

Fall 2018: September 5, 2018

Before you begin your studies here, here is a quick to-do list:

Step 1: Confirm Your Enrollment at NYIT

More

Submit your $400 nonrefundable tuition deposit by the deposit deadline, or within two weeks of your acceptance if after the deposit deadline.

Deposit Deadline for Fall 2018: May 1, 2018

We will contact you via email when you can submit your deposit through the admitted student portal.

Please set up your username and password in the my.NYIT Portal. You can set up your username and password by clicking on "create account/reset password." This will enable you to create your NYIT email account, which will be used for all official NYIT notifications, and access NYITConnect to view, accept, or decline your NYIT scholarship and/or financial aid.

Step 2: Submit your FAFSA

More

To be eligible for merit-based, state, or federal assistance, you must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The 2018-2019 FAFSA opens on October 1. If you received a scholarship in your acceptance package, you do need to complete the FAFSA in order to receive this scholarship. By completing the FAFSA, you may be eligible for additional financial aid. Once we receive your FAFSA, we will send you a financial assistance package that will be inclusive of all awards you have received.

NYIT's FAFSA school code is 002782. NYIT's state TAP code is 2120. Complete your FAFSA online starting October 1.

Step 3: Visit NYIT

More

Join us for a visit at our Manhattan or Old Westbury campus. Schedule a campus tour or check out our calendar of admissions events.

Step 4: Sign Up for a Placement Exam or Advisement Appointment to Register for Courses

More

First, you will receive an email notification when your evaluation is completed. Once this is completed, you will be able to see if you are exempt from a math placement exam.

  • Fall 2018 Students: Registration will open in June for the fall semester. We'll let you know when it's time to register.

Please note: If you are not receiving college credit for the first English course required for your major, you are required to submit official SAT/ACT scores prior to your exam or appointment. You must have a completed Student Immunization Form before taking placement exams or registering for classes. See Step 5 for more information.

Step 5: Get Your Immunizations

More

New York State requires all students to show proof of immunizations before attending classes. NYIT requires all students to submit their immunization documents prior to registering for classes. Please complete the Student Immunization Form and fax or mail it to NYIT's Office of Wellness Services prior to your placement exam or appointment. If you are under 18, you MUST have a parent sign the form or you will be unable to register for classes on the day you come in for your placement exam. For more information, please view our Immunization Policy or contact the Office of Wellness Services at ows@nyit.edu or 516.686.3705.

Step 6: Register for Orientation

More

You are required to attend an overnight orientation as a new transfer student. This will be your opportunity to learn about student services and campus life, get to know your future classmates, and get ready for college life. We will let you know when it is time to register for orientation.

Step 7: Make Your Housing Arrangements

More

Decide if you would like to live in one of NYIT's full-service residence halls, located a short bus or subway ride away from campus. To live in an NYIT residence hall, please complete a Residential Hall Application, submit a nonrefundable $345 housing deposit, and select your meal plan.

Step 8: Send Your Final, Official Documents

More

You must ensure that final, official college transcripts and official scores (such as APs, IBs, A-levels, etc.) are submitted to the Office of Admissions prior to the start of your first semester. Submit your documents in person or mail them to Office of Admissions, New York Institute of Technology, Northern Boulevard, Old Westbury, NY 11568. NYIT prefers to receive transcripts electronically. Submit your official transcripts through one of several electronic transcripts networks that NYIT participates: National Student Clearinghouse, Parchment Exchange, and eSCRIP-SAFE. If your prior institution does not participate with one of our networks, they may send an electronic transcript directly to NYIT at admissions@nyit.edu.

Step 9: Pay Your Tuition Bill

Accept or reject your financial aid and arrange a payment plan through NYITConnect. Learn how to pay your tuition bill.

NOTE: All first-year and transfer students are required to login and complete Part I of AlcoholEdu/Haven, our online alcohol education and sexual assault prevention programs. We will notify you about this.
