Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
ASEE, the American Society of Engineering Education, has bestowed bronze level recognition—the highest level awarded during the period—to the College of Engineering and Computing Sciences for its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) plan and efforts to date.
The College of Engineering and Computing Sciences is dedicated to ensuring that every person we engage with—whether student, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends—are welcome and share a sense of belonging and community.
We pride ourselves on the college’s long history of community engagement, student success, and faculty and staff excellence. We devote ourselves to growth, with a laser focus on the importance of diversity in our student body, faculty, and staff. Our primary objective is to achieve equitable treatment and inclusion of all who seek to join us on our quest for mastery during the ongoing evolution of technology.
We are committed to actively continuing to support our vision for increased diversity, equity, and inclusion for our college and for New York Tech.
Our DEI Vision
To broaden participation within the college so its demographics emulate those of the surrounding New York metro area. To provide an environment that allows diverse students, faculty, and staff to thrive and succeed without regard to ethnicity, race, color, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, marital status, age, citizenship, veteran status, professional level, or socioeconomic background. To recognize, empower, and provide equitable treatment of all those working with, and within, the college.
DEI Goals
- Increase exposure to and knowledge of the college’s programs amongst underrepresented and marginalized minorities (i.e., women, the disabled, and ethnic minorities such as Black/African-American, Hispanic, and American Indian/Native Alaskan).
- Increase enrollment, retention, and graduation rates by adapting and maintaining an inclusive educational environment for underrepresented and marginalized identities.
- Research and develop best practices related to diversity, equity, and inclusion targeted towards improving the hiring process for faculty and staff members.
- Develop partnerships with research intensive and non-Ph.D. Engineering schools that currently service a diverse population, while providing collaborative opportunities for research with other institutions.
- Revisit and revise the diversity, equity, and inclusion plan annually, both as a college and with partners from the institution.
