Student Government Association
Are you interested in making an impact on the student experience? Getting involved at New York Tech means starting a lifetime of rewarding experiences that can translate to your future career. There are a number of ways you can get involved in student leadership! Become a student leader with the Long Island Student Government Association (SGA).
New York Tech’s Student Government Association (SGA) is the official voice of the student body. SGA advocates on behalf of student interests including academic, cultural, and special interest. SGA is charged with working with the college’s faculty and administration to improve every facet of the student experience.
In addition to acting as a liaison with New York Tech’s administration, SGA oversees the budgeting process for all recognized student organizations, and supports a variety of campus-wide events.

Mission Statement
The purpose of the Student Government Association, shall be to respond to and resolve, to the best of its ability, those issues or concerns, that are expressed by members of the student body. We, the undergraduate Student Government Association, shall provide leadership that will ensure the students’ voices will be heard and considered at New York Institute of Technology.
Executive Branch – Officers of the Executive Board

T’ron Strapp
President
T’ron Strapp is a senior Mechanical Engineering student and currently serves as President of the Student Government Association on the Long Island Campus. He is passionate about student advocacy, leadership development, and creating meaningful opportunities for student engagement across campus. T’ron is also involved in engineering research focused on sustainable energy and water systems, plays volleyball, tutors, works as a student ambassador coordinator for the Office of Admissions and leads the Men’s Ministry on Campus for the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. As SGA President, he is committed to amplifying student voices and strengthening the connection between students, clubs, and university leadership.

Chigoze Henry Umaeku
Executive Vice President
Chigozie Henry Umeaku is a Mechanical Engineering student at New York Institute of Technology’s Long Island Campus and currently serves as Executive Vice President of the Student Government Association. In this role, he supports senate operations, strengthens collaboration across committees, and helps turn student concerns into clear, trackable action. Outside of SGA, Henry is an engineer at New York Tech’s Entrepreneurship and Technology Innovation Center (ETIC) the university’s hub for innovation, prototyping, and startup development and he serves as Manager of New York Institute of Technology Tech Threads, the professional closet that provides students with free career-ready attire and accessories.
A part-time serial entrepreneur, Henry has competed in New York Institute of Technology’s Shark Tank-style NESTS FlyOff and earned first-place recognition, including the first-place trophy known as the Alfie Award.

Mike Zhou
Chief of Staff
Mike Zhou is a Life Sciences B.S./D.O. student at New York Tech and currently serves as Chief of Staff for the Student Government Association. In this role, he supports senate operations, coordinates initiatives, and works closely with student leaders to strengthen communication and accountability within SGA. Outside of student government, Mike enjoys volleyball, tutoring, and walking with the Lord. He is committed to creating collaborative spaces where student voices are heard and translated into meaningful action on campus.

Gamana Gogineni
Treasurer
Gamana Gogineni is a biology major at NYIT and currently serves as Treasurer of the Student Government Association. As Treasurer, she oversees financial planning for student organizations, monitors budgets, and works with campus offices to ensure responsible use of student funds. Outside of student government, Gamana is involved in campus life as a Resident Assistant, volunteers as an EMT, and has a strong passion for dance. Gamana is dedicated to supporting students through transparent leadership and contributing to a campus environment where resources are managed thoughtfully and student initiatives can thrive.

Sruti Tadikonda
Director of Public Relations
As Director of Public Relations for the Student Government Association, Sruti is responsible for managing communications, promoting campus initiatives, and ensuring students stay informed and engaged with SGA activities. In addition to this role, she serves as a StudentAmbassador for NYIT, representing the university and supporting outreach efforts to prospective and current students. Outside of her academic and leadership commitments, she enjoys dancing, reading, and cooking. She is passionate about using her role to strengthen connections and foster a more unified and engaged campus community.

Uddipon Sarker
Inter-Fraternity Sorority Council President
Uddipon currently serves as the President of the Interfraternity and Sorority Council (IFSC) at New York Institute of Technology’s Long Island campus and is a proud member of Delta Epsilon Psi Fraternity, Incorporated. A first-generation college student, he is deeply invested in growing and strengthening the Greek community at NYIT through collaboration, leadership development, and student advocacy. He has a strong passion for Formula1 and soccer, interests that reflect his appreciation for teamwork, strategy, and high-performance environments. Through his leadership and involvement on campus, he is committed to fostering an inclusive, engaged, and impactful fraternity and sorority life experience for the NYIT community.

Graduate Student Association (GSA)
The Graduate Student Association is the primary governing body representing graduate students at New York Tech, advocating for their academic success and welfare. Members of the GSA help graduate students make connections both within and beyond the New York Tech community, providing professional development opportunities and promoting interdisciplinary and relational approaches to their careers and their studies. Its members are committed to equity and equality for all graduate students, with the goal of ensuring the finest possible graduate education experience.

Campus Activities Board
As a member of the Campus Activities Board, you’ll help plan and organize a calendar of large and small social events, entertainment, lectures, and service projects that bring enjoyment, inspiration, and connection to the student community.
New York Tech Leadership Development Programs
Through our BEAR (Be Engaged and Roar) Into Leadership program, New York Tech offers several leadership development programs to help students identify and develop their leadership skills, including First-Year Experience (FYE) Leadership Program, designed to help new students acclimate to New York Tech and develop key life and leadership skills. Additional programs are open to current students at all levels.
The Office of Student Life strives to create a sense of community that promotes equity, social justice, self-discovery, student achievement, and diversity through the creation and support of student-centered initiatives and activities. We accomplish this mission through the development of personal educational opportunities and training, as well as active engagement and participation in campus and community life.

Honor and Leadership Societies
New York Tech students have the opportunity to join various national honor societies that focus on leadership and academic excellence, including the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS), which offers a life-changing leadership program that helps students achieve personal growth and career success, and empowers them to have a positive impact on their communities.
