CME Preceptor

CME Credits for Precepting

Preceptors are an important part of NYITCOM’s clinical education. They guide medical students to use their medical knowledge and practical skills. One of the benefits of being a preceptor is the ability to receive CME credits.

Preceptors can submit their credit hours using the link or the QR code below by May 31 and December 31 of each calendar year.

In addition, the Clinical Education Department tracks requests for CME credit via student performance evaluations for third-year students. The actual submission then occurs in January and June.

D.O. Credits

The credit type would be AOA 1-B for clinicians taking third- and fourth-year students in an office or hospital setting.  NYITCOM will submit the hours to the AOA on your behalf.

  • Please ensure the credit hours requested are submitted on time, as we are not able to submit for credits over one year old.
  • Hours are capped at 160 hours for a four-week rotation and 320 hours for an eight-week rotation.
  • You will receive a letter stating the CME credits post-submission via email.
  • You can easily view your current credits by logging onto your AOA account on the AOA website or by calling the AOA member resources department at 888.626.9262.
  • Keep in mind that AOA runs on a three-year cycle.  The current cycle is 2025-2027.

M.D. Credits

Although we cannot currently submit to the AMA for M.D. credits, participants will receive a letter stating the precepting hours biannually. You may use the letter to self-report your hours to any organizations requesting this information.

For more information on how to self-report to the AMA for credit, please refer to page 10 of the AMA PRA booklet.
