Milan Toma
School of Engineering & Computing Sciences Mechanical EngineeringMilan Toma, Ph.D., assistant professor of mechanical engineering, secured a donation of $15,000 from the New York Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association on June 7, 2018, for his study on concussion and helmet safety. Toma's study, "The Computational Assessment of Helmets and Concussion," will collect data on jockey head protection through simulation testing of various helmet designs. He will be conducting the study in conjunction with Hallie Zwibel, D.O., assistant professor and director of sports medicine.
John Hanc
John Hanc, M.A., associate professor of communication arts, was honored at this year's Press Club of Long Island Media Award ceremony, held on June 7, 2018. Hanc won First Place—Humor Narrative for "He Dumps Trash Can Liner, Faster Time is in the Bag," a column about how he and the NYC Marathon had changed since he last ran the race 30 years ago; Second Place—Lifestyle Feature Narrative for "Scout on a Mission: Troop Turns Back Time," about a local Boy Scout who discovered and restored an overgrown 18th century family cemetery; and Second Place—Profile Narrative for "A Soldier's Art Draws on His WW I Service," the story of Salvatore Cillis, who recounted his war experiences in a series of illustrated letters that were displayed at the New York Historical Society. All of the articles were published in Newsday, where Hanc is a contributing writer.

College of Osteopathic Medicine Academic Affairs Institute for Clinical CompetenceTimothy Devine, simulation technology specialist at the Institute for Clinical Competency at the College of Osteopathic Medicine, was selected as the SimGHOSTS Simulation Champion for May 2018. Devine was recognized on June 1, 2018 for his expertise as a health professional, simulation specialist, and instructor.

College of Arts & Sciences Masters School CounselingCarol Dahir, Ed.D., adjunct professor and chair of the Department of School Counseling, co-authored a paper, "Assessing the Counseling and Non-Counseling Roles of School Counselors," on June 1, 2018.

College of Arts & Sciences Digital Art & DesignRozina Vavetsi, M.SC., associate professor and chair of the Department of Digital Art and Design, received two Graphic USA 2018 InHouse Design Awards on May 25, 2018, for her posters “Breaking into the Creative Market” and “POP! 2018 Academic Survey,” and had her work featured at the Graphic USA 2018 online and print publications.
