Dongsei Kim, M.Des., assistant professor of architecture, delivered a talk “The Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) as a Proving Ground,” on April 03, 2019 at the Humanities Institute at Stony Brook and The Center for Korean Studies.

Marcella Del Signore

School of Architecture & Design Architecture

Marcella Del Signore, associate professor of architecture, was appointed to serve on the Conference Committee for ACSA 108the Annual Meeting, to be held in San Diego in Spring 2020. As a member of the conference Review Committee, she will be responsible for overseeing the peer-review process. Del Signore received her appointment on March 28, 2019.

Michael Schiavetta

Strategic Communications & External Affairs Events & Conferences

Michael Schiavetta, director of external affairs, and Julie Godsoe, editorial director of editorial services, won the Sean A. Fanelli Award in Education on March 27, 2019, for their fall 2018 feature story, "Field of Screens," published in NYIT Magazine. The article, written by Schiavetta and edited by Godsoe, both staff members of strategic communications and external affairs, \ndetails the rise of eSports, the creation of the NYIT CyBears, and the pioneering work of the NYIT Center for eSports Medicine.

Bernadette Riley

College of Osteopathic Medicine Clinical Sciences Family Medicine

Bernadette Riley, D.O., associate professor of family medicine and director of the NYIT Ehlers Danlos Center, was honored as one of Brooklyn and Staten Island's Best Doctors on March 26, 2019, by the Medical Society of the County of Kings, Inc., the Academy of Medicine of Brooklyn, and the Richmond County Medical Society. Riley was nominated for the award by Sherman Dunn, D.O., president of NYSOMS and an NYITCOM alumnus.

Marcella Del Signore

School of Architecture & Design Architecture

Marcella Del Signore,, associate professor of architecture, co-authored with Gernot Riether a book titled Urban Machines: Public Space in a Digital Culture on March 25, 2019. "Over the last few decades, an increasingly collaborative and interdisciplinary work developed by architects, artists, urban and media designers has defined a particular landscape of projects that engage information technology as a catalytic tool for expanding, augmenting and altering public and social interactions in the urban space. Through essays, case studies, and conversations, this book aims to present a critical historical overview of the impact of information technologies on the physical public space while providing an inspiring vision of possible future urban scenarios."

Amanda Golden

College of Arts & Sciences English

Amanda Golden, Ph.D., assistant professor of English, presented, "Digital Transitions: Recovering Edna O'Brien's Sylvia Plath Screenplay" at the American Conference for Irish Studies in Boston, Massachusetts on March 23, 2019. This paper addressed her NYIT students' digital project interpreting the Irish writer Edna O'Brien's manuscripts for her unpublished screenplay about the American poet Sylvia Plath housed in Emory University's Stuart A. Rose Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library.

Sarah Meyland

College of Engineering and Computing Sciences

Sarah Meyland, M.S., J.D., associate professor of environmental technology and sustainability, spoke at a public forum on drinking water presented by Blank Slate Media on March 21, 2019, at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock in Manhasset, NY. Meyland responded in great detail to questions regarding the continued safety of Long Island drinking water and also addressed the need for better comprehensive oversight of the Long Island aquifer system in order to preserve a sustainable supply of drinking water for the region.

Dongsei Kim, M.Des., assistant professor of architecture, presented his ongoing research animation “A Construct The Koreas (Never) Made Together: Deconstructing the DMZ For The Imaginary – 2019,” in the “DMZ” exhibition held at the Culture Station Seoul 284, March 21 - May 6, 2019 and June 6 – July 7, 2019.

Melissa Battista

Global Academic Programs English Language Institute

Melissa Battista, M.S., learning specialist at the English Language Institute, presented a workshop at the 2019 TESOL International Convention and English Language Expo in Atlanta, Georgia on March 13, 2019. The workshop demonstrated how to use Twine, an open-source tool for creating interactive stories and short text adventure style stories. This was the first time anyone from NYIT was accepted to present at this conference, the largest professional development event in the TESOL field.

Milan Toma

College of Engineering & Computing Sciences Mechanical Engineering

Milan Toma, Ph.D., assistant professor of mechanical engineering, co-authored a research paper titled, "Development of a Computational Method for Simulating Tricuspid Valve Dynamics," published in the Annals of Biomedical Engineering on March 11, 2019.
