Suzanne Musho
Suzanne Musho, AIA, NCARB, vice president for capital planning and facilities management and chief architect, participated in the Professional Women in Construction New York Chapter's first virtual panel event on Higher Education Construction on April 21, 2020. Musho joined panelists Andrew Christ, PE, senior vp for real estate development and capital operations at NJIT, and Kimberlae Saul, AIA, director of planning, design + construction at the Pratt Institute to address the status and future of construction in institutions of higher education in the New York City area, how the industry as a whole is changing in response to COVID-19, and the potential impacts to in-person and remote education, residence halls, safety, and continuing facilities work.

College of Arts & Sciences Life SciencesClaude E. Gagna, Ph.D., professor of biological and chemical sciences, published a peer-reviewed journal article abstract titled “MicroCT Scanner to Differentiate Histotechnological Processing of Bone Tissue Using Different Nucleic Acid‐Based Fixatives” in the April 2020 issue of The FASEB Journal. The article discusses how different histotechnological fixation of bone tissue can result in the preservation of canonical and exotic DNAs.

College of Engineering & Computing Sciences Mechanical EngineeringMilan Toma, Ph.D., assistant professor of mechanical engineering, published a paper, “Mechanism of Coup and Contrecoup Injuries Induced by a Knock-Out Punch,” co-authored by his graduate student, Christopher Lipari, in the Journal of Mathematical and Computational Applications on April 15, 2020.

School of Health Professions | Physician Assistant StudiesShinu Kuriakose, D.H.Sc., PA-C, associate professor of physician assistant studies, and Sara Winter, MSPA, PA-C, associate professor of physician assistant studies, were recipients of the IMPACT Grant for their Mental Health Project, "Frontline Preparedness for Mental Health Crises." on April 14, 2020.

College of Engineering & Computing Sciences Mechanical EngineeringMilan Toma, Ph.D., assistant professor of mechanical engineering, had an article, “Cerebrospinal Fluid Interaction with Cerebral Cortex during Pediatric Abusive Head Trauma,” published in the Journal of Pediatric Neurology on April 9, 2020. Toma co-authored the article with Hallie Zwibel, D.O., assistant professor of family medicine, medical director of academic healthcare centers, and director of sports medicine, and Alfonso Dehesa-Baeza, an undergraduate student at NYIT College of Engineering and Computing Sciences.

College of Arts & Sciences Biological & Chemical SciencesClaude E. Gagna, Ph.D., professor of biological and chemical sciences, was voted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society (ΑΩΑ) on April 6, 2020. He entered the Society as a Member, (distinguished teachers' category). Alpha Omega Alpha currently has active chapters in 132 LCME-accredited medical schools in the United States. New members are elected annually by society administrators and members. The majority of new members are elected in their final year of medical school, but distinguished teachers, faculty members, residents, and alumni can also be inducted into the society.
John Misak
College of Arts & Sciences | EnglishKevin LaGrandeur, Ph.D., professor of English, and John Misak, D.A., assistant professor of English, held a virtual session, "Experiencing the Past through Visual Models and Virtual Reality," for the Renaissance Society of America's NTRS-DH@RSA Virtual Conference on April 2, 2020. Their presentation focused on the development of our Hamlet game used to teach Shakespeare's play. Topics included pedagogy, game design, and critical theory.
