Charting Your Course — We're Here to Help
Academic advising is a critical component of your educational experience. We offer a range of resources to help you prepare meaningful educational plans that are compatible with your career goals, including: faculty advisors, Advising and Enrichment Center staff, peer advisors, and a comprehensive website with tools such as advisor schedules, semester maps, and advisement preparation guidelines.
Mentoring gives NYIT students valuable experience they’ll need to succeed in their careers after graduation.
Each semester, before you register for classes, you will need to meet with an academic advisor to review your curriculum and academic progress before receiving approval for your upcoming course selections. Though an advisor will provide guidance, it is ultimately your responsibility to ensure that you are meeting your degree requirements.
Take the Next Step
- Find your degree requirements in the NYIT catalog or as linked from your degree program page.
- Make an appointment with your Faculty Advisor. They're your best resource for receiving career-related advice.
- Visit us in the Advising and Enrichment Center (AEC). We're here to provide additional support, offering general academic advisement for all undergraduate majors, assisting with detailed degree planning, and providing major exploration counseling. Additionally, AEC advisors can inform you of potentially beneficial educational enrichment programs and support services.
- Supervised peer advisors (PAs) are also available to help prepare you for an advising appointment by offering assistance with future course planning and preparing questions for your academic advisor. PAs can also help you navigate NYIT's resources and online tools.
Bolster Your Skills
We offer a variety of academic support services at our Old Westbury and Manhattan campus that offer subject tutoring, math and writing support, and supplemental instruction in classes identified as especially challenging.
