Through interdisciplinary, collaborative, project-based learning that extends beyond the requirements of their academic major, students will be an integral part of New York Tech’s vibrant learning community.

Honors College students gain additional experience in interdisciplinary, real-world problem-solving using a collaborative and project-based approach with the guidance of dedicated faculty. Honors college students have dedicated workspaces, resources, and faculty mentors to enable a rich learning community. Students will engage in exciting extra-curricular and co-curricular activities that will complement their academic lives and offer the opportunity for intellectual, personal, and social growth.

There is no additional tuition cost to participating in the Honors College. Honors College students will be eligible to receive a stipend for special projects outside of the classroom to support scholarship or professional development and experiences outside of school, such as conference costs, including travel, or housing for an internship distant from your home. It is not to be used for tuition.

The stipend is available across all four years and can be distributed according to your needs. However, the stipend is not awarded automatically. Students wishing to receive the stipend must complete an application explaining how the funds will be used.

New York Tech is a member of the National Collegiate Honors College and the Northeast Regional Honors Council which provide students with additional opportunities for growth, learning, new experiences, and collaboration. 

No. The Honors College curriculum is completely independent of your major. It is designed to fulfill elective credits and will offer opportunities in real-world problem-solving in an interdisciplinary, collaborative environment in addition to the knowledge you gain in your major. However, students in combined/dual degrees are not eligible for the Honors College. The combined/dual degree programs include:

The College of Engineering and Computing Sciences offers its own Honors Program called the Dean’s Honors Program, which serves students in that specific college. The Honors College brings together undergraduate students from across New York Tech to work and engage in extracurricular and community activities.

You’re welcome to apply for both, but you will only be able to enroll in one. The College of Engineering and Computing Sciences will reach out with more information.

Once you have applied to New York Tech, you will get access to your personal Admissions Portal. In your portal, you will see an application for the Honors College. Complete the application, which includes an additional essay.

Steps to Apply

  • Apply to New York Tech.
  • Once you have been admitted to New York Tech, the Honors College application will be made available via your Admissions Portal.
  • The Honors College application will include a personal statement:
    • Discuss one of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals that is meaningful to you. Identify the goal and provide a few sentences of general background about it and how it is meaningful to you. Tell us why you are passionate about working toward the goal and relate it to your personal experiences, scholarship, leadership, community engagement, or future aspirations. Your statement may be submitted as a (written) essay (300–350 words), a video, or a podcast (3–3.5 minutes).
  • If your major requires SAT/ACT scores, you will need to submit those scores as part of your admission. They are not required for consideration for the Honors College.

NOTE: Students who are in the College of Engineering and Computing Science Dean’s Honors Program are not eligible for the New York Tech Honors College.

New students will participate in an Honors College Orientation and all Honors College students will be invited to an Honors College Convocation. Honors students will also engage in special events including field trips and meeting distinguished guests through the Office of Student Engagement and the larger New York Tech Community.

Students who have strong academic achievement and who have demonstrated leadership in community engagement, research, or personal experiences, and are passionate about their future. Students enrolled in the College of Engineering and Computing Sciences might also be invited to participate in that college’s Dean’s Honors Program. In the future, both continuing and transfer students may be eligible. Students pursuing a combined/dual degree are not eligible for the Honors College.

The Combined/dual degrees include:

Student housing plays a significant role in the life/work community of the Honors College. Housing is therefore recommended for Honors College students.

Honors College students are eligible for all forms of financial aid, including federal and state aid, institutional scholarships, and grants.

Students can apply for stipends for summer projects through the Honors College. In addition, students are eligible for the Edward Guiliano Global Fellowship and the Fulbright U.S. Student Program. Students can work with the Office of Career Success and Experiential Education to apply.

New York Tech is also a member of the National Collegiate Honors College where students can find opportunities for growth, learning, new experiences, and collaboration.

There are no extra fees associated with being in the Honors College.

If for any reason a student decides to leave the Honors College before completing their degree, they must inform the co-directors that they are leaving. The student can proceed to earn their undergraduate degree and to live in a residence hall, similar to other students outside the Honors College. A student living in a residence hall who leaves the Honors College mid-year will continue to live in their room until the end of the school year when the halls are typically vacated.

Yes, any funds reserved specifically for Honors College students will be forfeited. However, you will still be eligible to apply for other financial aid.

We are looking for students who are curious, motivated, and passionate. We review applications using a combination of academic and personal factors, including your transcript and a written or oral personal statement that includes your extracurricular, community, and leadership activities. We will also review the letters of recommendation you submitted as part of your original application to New York Tech.

Currently, we are not holding interviews with prospective students

No, standardized test scores will not be considered for admission to the Honors College. If your major requires SAT/ACT scores, you will need to submit those scores as part of your admission application to New York Tech.

Students pay the standard New York Tech application fee. There is no additional fee to apply to the Honors College.

There is no GPA requirement to be accepted to the Honors College. See the FAQ: “How will the Honors College review applications?” for more information.

In the Honors College, you are expected to be a full-time student, maintain good standing in your major, and show a satisfactory level of engagement in the activities and academic work of the Honors College. Full-time students are enrolled in courses, amounting to at least 12 credits in a semester, that apply toward their degree. Maintaining good standing in your major indicates that the requirements of the major are met, which depending on the program, could include earning a minimum GPA. The number of failed or withdrawn courses will also be considered. The Honors College curriculum includes both academic work and participation in activities outside the classroom and you will receive prompt feedback in both areas. To graduate with the distinction of the Honors College, you are expected to finish your senior project before graduation.

  • Honors College application deadline: February 15, 2025
  • Notification of Decision: April 1, 2025
  • If you are selected for the Honors College, you will need to submit the Honors College Response Form to accept your spot and submit your tuition deposit in your Admissions Portal by May 1, 2025.
  • If you are waitlisted, you will be notified after May 1 of your acceptance to the Honors College.

Spots are limited, so priority will be given to those admitted students who confirm first.

We understand that our admitted students have many options. We ask that they submit their commitment to New York Tech and the Honors College by the deadline provided in their acceptance letter.
