The Office of the Vice Provost for Research at New York Institute of Technology provides leadership, coordination, and oversight for the university’s research and scholarly enterprise. The office works collaboratively with faculty, students, administrators, and external partners to advance research excellence, ensure regulatory compliance, and promote innovation that contributes to economic and societal impact.

All research administration and compliance functions at New York Tech are centralized within the Office of Sponsored Programs and Research (OSPAR), which reports to the Vice Provost for Research.

OSPAR supports the New York Tech research community by overseeing:

  • Award negotiation and post-award administration
  • Proposal development and submission

Through these functions, New York Tech ensures that sponsored research is conducted responsibly, ethically, and in full compliance with institutional, state, federal, and sponsor requirements.

The Office of the Vice Provost for Research promotes the translation of New York Tech discoveries into practical applications that benefit society and contribute to economic growth.

Through oversight of intellectual property and technology transfer activities, the Office of Vice Provost for Research supports:

  • Identification, protection, and management of intellectual property
  • Evaluation and commercialization of research discoveries
  • Licensing of New York Tech technologies to industry partners
  • Support for startups, entrepreneurship, and faculty-founded companies
  • Industry engagement and public–private partnerships

These efforts help advance New York Tech’s role as a driver of innovation, workforce development, and regional economic impact.

Research Centers and Institutes

Biomedical Research, Innovation, and Imaging Center (BRIIC)

The Biomedical Research, Innovation, and Imaging Center (BRIIC) reports directly to the Vice Provost for Research and serves as a hub for interdisciplinary biomedical research and innovation at New York Tech.

BRIIC supports research initiatives in areas including:

The center plays a critical role in advancing New York Tech’s biomedical research portfolio and accelerating innovation that addresses pressing health challenges.

Student Research Opportunity Center (SROC)

The New York Tech Student Research Opportunity Center (SROC) reports to the Vice Provost for Research and serves as the central coordinating unit for undergraduate and graduate students, affording opportunities in paid research positions as well as external positions and internships.

SROC supports student engagement in faculty-mentored research and scholarly activity by coordinating research opportunities, administering student research programs and funding, and promoting best practices in research mentorship and responsible conduct of research in collaboration with OSPAR.

Through SROC, New York Tech strengthens experiential learning, expands access to research opportunities, and advances a university-wide culture of inquiry aligned with institutional research priorities.
