Closely aligned with the Ph.D. in Chemistry, New York Tech’s Master of Science in Chemistry program provides a strong foundation for students pursuing careers in chemical sciences or further academic study.
Our curriculum delivers a comprehensive exploration of modern chemistry, combining advanced theoretical study with practical experience across the core areas of organic, inorganic, physical, and analytical chemistry. Students in the M.S. program develop a thorough understanding of experimental design and scientific inquiry, mastering the ability to design and conduct investigations that test complex hypotheses through systematic application of the scientific method.
From the first semester, you’ll engage in independent research under faculty mentorship, developing skills in experimental design, data analysis, and scientific interpretation. This hands-on approach builds expertise in laboratory, instrumental, and computational methods while encouraging intellectual rigor and creativity. Our program Integrates coursework, seminars, and research, creating a dynamic academic environment that will prepare you for success in research, industry, and advanced study. Students will complete their coursework with a thesis project at the end of their two years.

What You’ll Learn

The Chemistry, M.S., has specific admissions requirements, including:
- A strong academic background in chemistry or a related field
- Demonstrated participation in previous research projects, authorship on peer-reviewed publications, and/or work in relevant fields
- Strong letters of recommendation highlighting your research potential and academic excellence
- For students with a B.S., a minimum GPA of 3.2/4.0 from a regionally accredited university
- For students with an M.S., a minimum GPA of 3.5/4.0 from a regionally accredited university
- A minimum GRE score of 300 is required
- For international students, New York Tech’s requirement for an acceptable TOEFL IBT score is 79, or 6.5 on IELTS.
