Debra A. Vogel Student Advancement Scholarship

Entrepreneurship Grounded in Character, Discipline, Ethics, Honor, Integrity, and Principles

The Debra A. Vogel Student Advancement Scholarship is designed to inspire New York Tech students to embrace their entrepreneurial spirit and become engaged in the global business community as they continue their studies. The scholarship provides a foundation of financial assistance as an incentive to encourage students to become future international industry leaders through their innovation, ideas, and passion.

About the Debra A. Vogel Scholarships

The scholarships range from $250 to $750 per year and are open to all full- and part-time New York Tech undergraduate and graduate students. Scholarships will be awarded biannually, for the fall and spring semesters.

Fall 2025
Deadline to Submit: Monday, October 27, 2025
Winners will be notified by Monday, December 8, 2025. 

Spring 2026
Deadline to submit: March 23, 2026
The winner will be notified by May 4, 2026. 

Requirements

  • All applicants must be full- or part-time undergraduate or graduate students at New York Tech.
  • Students can apply for more than one scholarship at a time and are eligible to receive more than one scholarship per year.
  • All applicants must complete an application form indicating which scholarships they are applying for and including:
    • A separate essay of 350-500 words, double-spaced, in 12-point Times New Roman or Arial font for each scholarship entry, including, as appropriate:
      • Dates and timelines for your project.
      • Any literature supporting your project
      • Contact information for any organization, association, or institution associated with your project
  • Applicants will be judged based on demonstrated business leadership and innovation, outcome and evidence of the project, and presentation of the essay and supporting literature.
  • Scholarship(s) must be applied to tuition and mandatory college fees only
  • Winners will be notified by August 23.
  • Scholarship(s) must be applied to tuition and mandatory college fees only.
  • Scholarship recipients will be required to submit a Thank You Letter to the Debra A. Vogel Student Advancement Program and may be invited to an awards recognition event.
  • Scholarship recipients are encouraged to attend innovation and entrepreneurship events on campus and in their community in support of their idea.

  • Complete the required application.
  • Include a 350-500-word essay (double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman or Arial font) that describes and articulates in detail a potential entrepreneurial business venture idea that you wish to develop into an actual business model. Your idea can pertain to any category of business venture: small business, sole proprietor, scalable startup, large company, or social entrepreneur.
    • Share your innovation, the business opportunity it addresses, and why you are passionate about your idea. Address the viability of your venture, including an assessment of market competition and potential profitability.
    • Describe how your experience in developing this potential venture has affected your leadership skills and enthusiasm—and how it has been influenced by your personal and educational background.
    • Be sure to articulate all potential outcomes and evidence of your role in creating your Entrepreneurial Business Venture Idea.

  • Include a 350-500-word essay (double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman or Arial font) that articulates and demonstrates how you have helped a start-up company become an operating business that is economically and logistically sustainable for the future.
    • Chart the progress of this business from your first engagement to the present day, focusing on how your skillsets, business idea(s), and leadership have helped the company successfully establish itself and meet its business obligations and challenges.
    • Describe how your experience in developing this potential venture has affected your leadership skills and enthusiasm. Be sure to articulate all outcomes and evidence of your role in supporting the start-up business.
