What is ITTPC Certification?

The International TUTOR Training Program Certification (ITTPC) provides several levels of certifications for college tutor training programs, since 1989. These programs have recognized thousands as Certified Tutors, Certified Advanced Tutors, or Certified Master Tutors.

How to achieve CRLA level 1 Certification?

Complete the following steps to be eligible for Level 1 Certification:

STEP 1: Be currently employed at the New York Tech Learning Center as a Peer Tutor

  • Our current Peer Tutors will be eligible to be certified
  • Not a Peer Tutor yet? Learn how to Become a Peer Tutor!

STEP 2: Complete at least 10 hours of mandatory tutor training

  • This training will be provided through certified training modules, in-person group sessions, and one-on-one meetings with your supervisor
  • Trainings will be offered in both the Fall and Spring semesters

STEP 3: Conduct at least 25 hours of tutoring through the Learning Center Peer Tutoring Program

  • Tutoring sessions may be conducted online or in-person at the Learning Center
  • Sessions must be completed within the same academic year as training

STEP 4: Attend regular supervision and evaluation meetings with your direct supervisor

  • Your supervisor will discuss your training and assess how you are integrating the acquired knowledge into your tutoring sessions
  • They will also address any challenges you may encounter and provide guidance towards enhancing your performance as a tutor

Becoming a certified tutor can benefit you and your future career in the following ways:

  • Successful completion of the training program enhances your skills and enables you to be an effective peer tutor.
  • The skills you will develop or enhance during this process translate into many of the roles and responsibilities you will take on in your career after graduation
  • Your certification will look great on your resume and your LinkedIn profile. It will also provide you with an opportunity to discuss this accomplishment during future interviews.
