ARTC 201 Computer Graphics I 3
This introductory course in digital image-making surveys current digital tools and techniques used in the computer graphics field. Through assigned projects, students will develop an understanding of common computer-based graphics and design workflows and will learn skills to develop their ideas into a graphic format.

ARTD 103 Shape and Color 3
This course introduces students to the principles and theories of additive and subtractive color in two-dimensional compositions for traditional studio and digital applications. The elements of design, the psychological and symbolic uses of color, and the Gestalt theory will be covered.

ARTG 201 Design Principles 3
Prerequisite: Prerequisite: ARTC 201

Design Principles offers an introduction to elements and principles of design. Through studio projects, students will demonstrate an understanding of design problem-solving skills, learn the vocabulary of visual communications, and become familiar with the design process from concept to development to production.

ARTG 302 Typography 3
A course in type awareness. To explore the history of typography, origins of the alphabet, type families, and designing with type. Learning skills will cover type preferences, type moods, traditional and computer copy-editing methods.

Computer Graphics II is the subsequent course to Computer Graphics I and will continue to focus on fundamental industry applications to prepare students for artistic and commercial projects in computer graphic design. Through projects, students will expand their skills to creating master industry-standard graphic designs. A particular focus will be on creating package designs.

ARTG 251 Visual Identity 3
Prerequisite: Prerequisite: ARTG 201

Visual Identity introduces students to the theory and practice of creating a powerful concept and developing a consistent visual language by which a company becomes recognizable. This visual language reflects a philosophy, carries out a branded look and feel of a company, and consists of a mark/logo and various supporting applications for print and online media.

ARTG 260 Web Design 3
Prerequisite: Prerequisite: ARTC 251

ARTG 301 Experience Design 3
Prerequisite: Prerequisite: ARTG 251

Experience Design will cover practical methods of approaching design problems holistically emphasizing on the user’s experience and interaction; Students will focus on storytelling, sketching, and communicating design ideas to potential users through studying personas, functionality requirements, prototyping, and creating graphic user interface design.

ARTG 310 Advanced Typography 3
Prerequisite: Prerequisite: ARTG 302

Advanced Typography is an in-depth examination of the powerful properties of type in the making of visual communication. Students build on existing typographic skills to integrate knowledge with form, image, sequence and narrative in historical, theoretical, and practical contexts. ARTG 351 Package Design 3
Prerequisite: Prerequisite: ARTG 301

A study in two and three-dimensional package design, creating innovative and functional packaging to promote the manufactured product. Learning skills will include designs for labels, various shaped containers, and point of purchase in store counter-top display.

ARTG 352 Editorial Design 3
Prerequisite: Prerequisite: ARTG 302

The design of single and double-page layouts for magazines and newspapers using typography, illustrations, photography and other design elements to enhance the layout.

ARTG 401 Advertising Design 3
Prerequisite: Prerequisite: ARTG 351

Advertising Design will introduce students to principles of advertising. Emphasis will be given to advertising methodologies and techniques, definition of the target audience, marketing objectives and competition, copy-writing, effective communication and persuasion, principles of design and campaign development for a variety of media including posters, brochures, packaging, TV storyboards, and billboard advertising.

ARTG 403 Branding 3
Prerequisite: Prerequisite: ARTG 251

The course exposes students to the principles and practicalities of branding and the strategies and tactics of in-depth brand development. The course is intended for the undergraduate student who wishes to expand knowledge of the business and management aspects of branding in creative industries.
