How To Apply
Thank you for your interest in the Biomedical Sciences, M.S. program. Review the information below to apply.
Applications are reviewed by NYITCOM Office of Admissions. This program begins in the summer semester, and runs for a total of three semesters.
The following are required for application to the program:
- Completed AACOMAS D.O. Application and Completed M.S. in Biomedical Sciences (BMS) application
- Completion of a bachelor’s degree and pre-med requirements.
Prerequisite courses:- English: 6 semester hours.
- Biology, including a basic course in general biology or zoology (lecture and lab): 8 semester hours.
- General Chemistry (lecture and lab): 8 semester hours.
- Organic Chemistry I (lecture and lab): 4 semester hours.
- Organic Chemistry II (lecture and lab): 4 semester hours. (Biochemistry, with or without lab, may be substituted for Organic Chemistry II.)
- Physics (lecture and lab): 8 semester hours.
- Three letters of recommendations from the following:
- Two letters from undergraduate faculty in your major highlighting academic abilities.
- One letter from a work or volunteer organization highlighting leadership skills or a reference highlighting your interest in medicine.
- Transcripts from all previously attended colleges (unofficial transcripts are acceptable upon application, but official transcripts required before program completion).
- Undergraduate cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher recommended. There is no MCAT required for this program.
- Personal statement on how this program can help you reach your goals, and what can you add to the program.
In order to earn a guaranteed place in the NYITCOM D.O. Program for the year following completion of the Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences degree, students must:
- Receive a grade of 80% or higher in every course of the curriculum.
- Receive a full recommendation from the Program Director to the NYITCOM D.O. Admissions Committee.
- Successfully complete research requirements.
- Display professional and ethical behavior at all times.
- Be enrolled full-time.
- Complete all requirements for the degree within one (1) year of beginning the program. Exceptions to this rule may only be made at the consent of the director of the program.
- There is no final comprehensive exam at the end of this program, rather each course is completed individually and utilizes multiple assessment methods to determine students’ mastery of the material.
Students who are not seeking guaranteed entry to the NYITCOM D.O. program, in order to earn the Biological Sciences M.S degree must:
- Receive a passing grade of C or higher in every course of the curriculum.
- Successfully complete research requirements.
- Display professional and ethical behavior at all times.
- Be enrolled full-time.
- Complete all requirements for the degree within one (1) year of beginning the program. Exceptions to this rule may only be made at the consent of the director of the program.
- There is no final comprehensive exam at the end of this program, rather each course is completed individually and utilizes multiple assessment methods to determine students’ mastery of the material.
