Accreditation Site Visit Information

New York Institute of Technology will host the Middle States Self-Study Evaluation Visit on October 25-28, 2026.

General Information for the Middle States Self-Study Evaluation Visit

What is Middle States?

The Middle States Commission on Higher Education is one of seven regional accrediting bodies recognized by the Council of Higher Education Accreditation and the U.S. Department of Education.

What is accreditation?

Accreditation is a peer review process intended to ensure the quality of higher education institutions and programs. Accredited institutions voluntarily seek accreditation and agree to meet the standards of their accrediting body. An institution must be accredited by a nationally recognized accreditor in order for students to receive federal financial aid.

What is a self-study?

Every eight years, New York Tech undertakes a comprehensive self-study to maintain our accreditation. Faculty, staff, students, and administrators collectively evaluate and reflect on our mission, goals, performance, and resources to demonstrate that we meet MSCHE’s Standards for Accreditation and Requirements for Affiliation. This work is captured in a self-study report, a detailed narrative that presents information, evidence-informed analysis, strengths and achievements, and recommendations for continuous improvement. This self-study cycle began in academic year 2024-25 and will continue through academic year 2026-27.

What is a site visit?

One of the final steps of the reaccreditation process is the site visit, when a team of professionals from peer institutions will visit our campus. During their time on campus, the team will meet with faculty, students, staff, administrators, trustees, and other members of the New York Tech community to confirm and clarify the information in our self-study report and to gather additional perspectives. While most of these meetings will be scheduled in advance, the team may also speak to any faculty, staff, and students they encounter while moving around campus about their experiences at New York Tech. The team will examine the documentation and assemble their findings in a Self-Study Evaluation Team Report, which will inform determination of our continued accreditation status.

The MSCHE team visit consists of a comprehensive review of the main campus (Long Island campus) and visits to selected domestic and international additional locations. As part of this process, the team has already visited Jonesboro as the designated domestic additional site and JUFE China as the designated international additional site. The MSCHE team will conduct its main campus visit at our Long Island campus from October 25 to October 28, 2026.

Those who will participate in specific visiting team meetings will receive specific instructions, but the entire campus community can participate by:
