Alumni Mentorship Program

Enhance your career experience while giving back to the next generation of doers, makers, healers, and innovators. Both mentors and mentees experience enrichment in their career and lives through mentorship programs.

The New York Tech Alumni Mentors Program is a cross-campus collaboration between the Offices of Alumni Relations, Student Engagement and Development, and Career Success and Experiential Education that pairs alumni with students who are looking for educational advice, career guidance, and life lessons.

It is a wonderful opportunity for alumni who appreciate what New York Tech gave them to give something back to the next generation of students.

Our program lasts 10 weeks, with many connections lasting longer. On average, the total time commitment is about 5 hours. Orientations and training will be provided for all participants. Modules and recommended topics are provided to guide and enhance the experience.

How You’ll Benefit

As a Mentor

  • Sharing your industry knowledge, your experiences and challenges.
  • Expanding your network.
  • Learning a different perspective and the wants and needs of the next generation.
  • Strengthening your coaching skills and New York Tech connections.
  • Giving back to New York Tech.

As a Student

  • Receiving advice, guidance, and perspective from an individual with prior professional and personal experiences.
  • Further developing communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Building your professional network.

Who We Serve

This program is open to students from all New York Tech campuses, ideally from second-year of undergraduate studies through master’s level programs.

Program Expectations

You will experience many successes from the Alumni Mentorship Program. To have a more fulfilling and rewarding experience, you must meet the following expectations:

  • Mentorship pairs are required to meet a minimum of four times during the semester for about one hour. For the fall semester, your total time commitment will be approximately one hour in October, two hours in November, one hour in December. For the spring semester, your total time commitment will be approximately one hour in March, two hours in April, and one hour in May.
  • On a voluntary basis, mentors and mentees must serve in the program for a minimum of one semester or 10 weeks.
  • Mentors and mentees are expected to remain in consistent communication with each other. In-person or virtual meetings are required (we recommend at least 2 a month). Phone and email conversations can supplement in-person or virtual meetings, but must not replace them.
  • At the conclusion of the semester, both the mentor and mentee are expected to complete a program evaluation. This will help us assess and make appropriate modifications for future cohorts of the alumni mentorship program.
