  • Get considerable savings! The JumpStart program cost is less than 50% of actual tuition costs.
  • If you have been awarded additional credits from Advanced Placement (AP) exams or earned college credits through a high school course, you might be able to complete your degree a semester early (saving you tuition!).

College Success

One huge benefit of the JumpStart program is the FREE college success course (2 credits). You will have the options of four exciting NYIT 101: College Success options to choose from however. If you are pursuing a major within the College of Engineering and Computing Sciences will instead be able to enroll in ETCS 105: Career Discover. These course options integrate college success skills development such as growth mindset, resilience, and time management with exciting academic content through an intellectually stimulating learning experience. In addition to developing critical skills that will support your success, you will also get a jump start on meeting your New York Tech classmates!

Your Closest Companion: How your Smartphone has Become your Window to the World


This course explores the intersection between psychology and technology. You will examine the psychological effects that technology has in your day-to-day life: Why do we feel so attached to our phones? What impact has smartphone usage had on mental health?

Communication is essential for today's work environment. No matter your field of study, engaging with peers, clients, patients, and others will play a central role in your position. More importantly, delivering your message so others understand your point is crucial.

In this course, we will consider issues beyond the conventional point/counterpoint fashion and will explore strategies and concepts connected to open-mindedness and “common ground.”

Your Secret Sauce for Success: Emotional Intelligence


This course will provide an overview of the major concepts which help define college success and emotional intelligence including, but not limited to: growth mindset, sense of belonging, the psychology of mood, motivation and emotions, and key skills such as time management, test taking skills, overcoming challenges, and financial wellness.

If you are in a major within the College of Engineering and Computing Sciences, you will be able to enroll in ETCS 105.

ETCS 105: Career Discovery


The course experience provides the skills and tools necessary for a technical career while enabling students to develop confidence in their academic endeavors. The creative role in the multi-disciplinary design and development process is emphasized in addition to communication skills, ethical, legal, and professional responsibilities.


  • You must be an admitted first-year student at New York Tech (first time or transfer).
  • NOTE: Combined degree majors (B.S./D.O., B.S./D.P.T, B.S./M.S. majors) and HEOP students are not eligible for JumpStart.)
  • Once you take your math placement exam (if needed), you will meet with an Advising and Enrichment Center advisor who will help you determine the best option for you based on your major.

Summer JumpStart Dates

  • Summer I & III begin on May 26th
  • Summer II begins on July 13th

Due to COVID-19, all summer courses will be taught remotely. Some courses will be taught synchronously (via Zoom or other video conference technology) at a specific day and time. Others will be fully online courses and will be taught asynchronously, meaning, you do the work on your own within a particular time frame established by the professor.
