Alessandro Melis

Alessandro Melis, Ph.D., IDC Foundation endowed chair and professor, and Fadhil Fadhil, robotics fabrication lab manager, both working in the School of Architecture and Design, wrote a paper, "Floating Acrobats: Exploring Exaptation in Architecture Through Artificial Intelligence" as a chapter in a book, Advances in Representation, published by Springer, on August 6, 2024.

Beth Elenko

Health Professions/Occupational Therapy

Beth Elenko, Ph.D., associate professor of occupational therapy, conducted research on the effectiveness of a virtual journal club (VJC) in enhancing students' understanding of evidence-based practice and its application in occupational therapy. Graduate students participated in a VJC over two semesters. The objective of the VJC is to foster group discussions in a non-threatening environment, preparing students for their future fieldwork and articulating evidence-based interventions in practice. The study, titled "The effectiveness of virtual journal clubs on evidence-based practices application," was published on September 6, 2024, in the International Journal of Education and Health.

William Letsou

College of Arts & Sciences/Department of Biological & Chemical Sciences

William Letsou, Ph.D., assistant professor of biological and chemical sciences, published an invited editorial in JNCI Cancer Spectrum entitled "Settling the score: what composite measures of social determinants tell us about hypertension risk" on September 2, 2024. The article explores the study on social determinants of hypertension risk in cancer survivors.

Nayoung Kim

CAS/Psychology and Counseling

Nayoung Kim, Ph.D., assistant professor of behavioral science, received the NARACES New Professional Award on September 1, 2024. This recognition is given to only one pre-tenured faculty member each year in the North Atlantic region by NARACES, a regional branch of the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision. This award recognizes a pre-tenured or new professional counselor educator in the NARACES region who has demonstrated promise in all areas of an academic position: teaching, scholarship, and service.

School of Management

Colleen P. Kirk, D.P.S., professor of marketing, was quoted on psychology-focused news site VeryWell Mind on August 31, 2024. She was quoted extensively in this article about consumer behavior and spending.

Nicole Calma-Roddin

College of Arts and Sciences / Psychology & Counseling Department

Nicole Calma-Roddin, Ph.D., assistant professor of psychology and counseling, had her article, "Recommendations for Implementing Anti-Ableism Across the Psychology Curriculum" published in Teaching of Psychology on August 23, 2024. The article discusses research on prejudice-reduction interventions and applies this to three topics common in psychology courses, to demonstrate where anti-ableist activities/discussion can be built into courses across the psychology curriculum.

Vidita Gawade

School of Management, Department of Business & Quantitative Analytics

Vidita Gawade, Ph.D., assistant professor of business and quantitative analytics in the School of Management, published a conference proceeding paper, presented by her team, at the June 2024 Manufacturing Science Engineering Conference in Knoxville, Tenn. The paper was titled “Physics-Informed Loss Functions with Explainable AI to Predict Emission in Powder Bed Fusion.” The paper was published online on August 20, 2024.

Jonathan Goldman

Jonathan Goldman, Ph.D., professor of English, Department of Humanities, was quoted in a Business Insider feature titled "Vintage photos show what it was like to live in New York City 100 years ago." In the article, published August 19, 2024, Goldman discussed women's rights, economics, and immigration.

Claude Gagna

College of Arts & Sciences

Claude E. Gagna, Ph.D., professor of biological and chemical sciences, published a peer-reviewed journal article titled "Occult Squamous Cell Carcinoma within Lichenoid-Dermatitis: An Important, Hazardous Pitfall Detected by Immunohistochemistry," on August 2, 2024. This research project reveals how advanced clinical dermatopathology immunohistochemical screening for squamous cell carcinoma can aid in the treatment of this potentially life-threatening disease. Metastatic squamous cancer with occult primary is a disease in which squamous cancer cells spreads to the lymph nodes in the neck.

Mark Gugliotti

Mark Gugliotti, D.P.T., associate professor of physical therapy, authored a textbook titled Makofsky's Spinal Manual Therapy: An Introduction to Soft Tissue Mobilization, Spinal Manipulation, Therapeutic and Home Exercises. The book, published July 31, 2024, by Routledge, focuses on the basics of spinal manual therapy and transferring that knowledge into practice within a clinical environment.
