The NYIT Master of Architecture (M.Arch.) program offers a first professional degree in architecture for students with a pre-professional degree in architecture or a bachelor’s degree in another area of study. Centered on innovative studio, technical, and liberal arts courses, our M.Arch. program is designed to help you develop a critical understanding of new technologies, materials and building practices, culture, history, and politics, and their impacts on patterns of new and existing built forms. As technology and architectural practices evolve, this critical perspective enables our graduates to provide design leadership that contributes to an increasingly sustainable built environment.
Our faculty of distinguished scholars, professors of practice, and visiting faculty, will help you develop fluency with evolving technologies for effective problem solving, experimentation, and communication, in an environment where specialists in related disciplines work with common purpose. In addition, you may also conduct advanced study in collaboration with our program in urban and regional design and with other disciplines within NYIT including engineering, management, social sciences, bioengineering, and health professions.
NYIT School of Architecture and Design offers a first professional Master of Architecture Degree program (M.Arch.) with 2-year and 3½-year tracks:
2-Year M.Arch. degree: The 60-credit track is designed for applicants who hold an undergraduate, pre-professional bachelor of science degree in architecture or architectural technology. No transfer credit is offered for graduate-level coursework from other institutions.
3½-Year M.Arch. degree: The 99-credit track is designed for applicants who hold undergraduate bachelor's degrees in disciplines other than architecture or architectural technology and without a pre-professional degree in architecture. No transfer credit is offered for graduate-level coursework from other institutions. As a prerequisite, applicants must have fulfilled one calculus course and one physics course with a lab. At least two studio art, art and/or architecture-related courses are also strongly recommended.
Our M.Arch. is also a designated STEM program, making its international graduates eligible for the extended, 24-month extension to the Optional Practical Training visa.
NYIT School of Architecture and Design prepares graduates to enter today's design and construction fields with uniquely experimental and innovative approaches to the challenges of architectural practice, at scales ranging from individual structures and their components, to complex institutions and multi-use projects, to whole communities. Our graduates will be prepared to enter practice with a deep understanding of the extended contexts and networks within which we operate, and an ability to anticipate the impacts of our actions.
We believe it's important to offer access to opportunity to all qualified students. NYIT has one of the lowest private tuitions in New York State and provides more than $40 million in institutional financial aid each year.
