Sue Shon received a Ph.D. in English from the University of Washington, an M.A. in Art History from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and a B.A. in Fine Arts and English and a minor in Asian American Studies from the University of Pennsylvania. She is currently working on a monograph, “Visual Literacy and the Making of Racial Sense,” which tells the story of how race became “visible” through the aesthetic structuring of the modern visual experience.
