Glowacki, Ashleigh

Ashleigh Glowacki

Campus: Long Island
Curricular Track: LDB
Hometown: Danbury, CT
Undergrad/Grad School (Major): University of Connecticut (Physiology and Neurobiology)
Clubs and Activities: Academic Medicine Society, SOIMA, LGBT Club, ACOOG

I chose NYITCOM because: I chose NYITCOM because during my time working with the HealthCorps, I met many residents who had come from here. Working alongside allopaths, I saw the difference between the Osteopathic approach and the Allopathic approach, and I knew that a DO was what I was meant to be. The physicians that came specifically from NYITCOM were the most willing to teach, explain, and involve me in every aspect of osteopathic medicine, including OMM. I knew from then that NYITCOM trained the kind of physicians I wanted to be, and was where I would be happiest to learn.

NYITCOM is special because: NYITCOM is a hugely accepting place. It is almost impossible to not find friends and friendly faces here, unless you actively attempt to avoid it. The warm environment from both students and faculty is an amazing part of NYITCOM and makes me feel like everyone is just as dedicated to their friends' and students' success, as well as their own.

Future Plans and Goals: I'm hoping to pursue either reproductive medicine or endocrinology as a specialty, but I'm hoping once I start rotating, where I see myself practicing will be more obvious. I would also like to work in high-density areas, with a wide spectrum of patient backgrounds and beliefs.

I have met so many who come from different walks of life and have inspired me with their stories and passions. This gave me a different perspective of what a doctor can be, and how the different paths people have taken influenced their interests and career goals. All the faculty at NYITCOM are also very passionate about teaching and the subject they teach, which provides an engaging environment for learning.

Campus: Long Island
Curricular Track: LDB
Hometown: Queens, NY
Undergrad/Grad School (Major): New York University (Psychology)
Clubs and Activities: AOCPMR, AOASM, MSA, APAMSA, Sports Medicine coverage events

I chose NYITCOM because: NYITCOM had one of the nicest campuses and the friendliest students I've seen during my medical school interview trail. In addition, the school uses a pass-fail system during the first two years, which in my opinion greatly reduces competition and stress among students. Being right next to NYC is also a major bonus.

NYITCOM is special because: The student body at NYITCOM is absolutely my favorite part of being here. Despite the large class size, I can recognize many faces on campus. There is also a strong sense of unity and support among my classmates; although the students here come from different backgrounds, we're all studying the same thing in the end, making it easier to connect to each other. I've already made great friends and met amazing people at NYITCOM, and look forward to continuing to do so in the future.

Future Plans and Goals: My current interests are in physical medicine and rehabilitation with a potential subspecialty in sports medicine. My dream is to eventually teach at a medical school in/near NYC, while working in a clinic or with athletes on the side. But medical students change their specialties all the time, so I'm keeping an open mind!
