What is Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)?

MFA, sometimes referred to as two-factor authentication or 2FA (second-factor authentication), is a security enhancement that allows you to present two pieces of evidence, also known as your credentials, when logging in to an account.

MFA credentials fall into any of these three categories:

  • Something you know – like your New York Tech username and password
  • Something you have – like a mobile phone
  • Something you are – like your fingerprint**

** New York Tech will not be using this category of factor.

Multi-factor authentication is one of the best ways to protect against remote attacks such as phishing, credential exploitation, and other attempts to take over your account.
