News Brief: Raising Money for Rock Steady Boxing

April 15, 2019

More than 200 people attended the NYIT Rock Steady Boxing Family Fun Day fundraiser on April 7 to benefit the NYIT Adele Smithers Parkinson’s Treatment Center.

The event, which raised more than $7,000, featured live music, raffles, and guest appearances by former New York Met Ed Kranepool, and boxer Chris Algieri NYIT (M.S. ’10). NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine and physical therapy students led exercises and drills for the patients.

Rock Steady Boxing NYIT was launched in 2016 under Adena Leder, D.O., assistant professor and director of the program. It is designed to help patients feel stronger in the face of the debilitating effects of Parkinson’s Disease.
