Dongsei Kim, M.Des., assistant professor of architecture, had his research work, “A Construct The Koreas (Never) Made Together: Deconstructing the DMZ For The Imaginary – 2019," invited to the "Negotiating Borders" exhibition and displayed at the Korean Cultural Center Canada in Ottawa, Canada, from October 13, 2023, to January 27, 2024.

Pablo Lorenzo-Eiroa, M.Arch., associate professor of architecture, was interviewed in Ethic Magazine on September 11, 2023, in relation to his recent book: Digital Signifiers on an Architecture of Information: From Big Data and Simulation to Artificial Intelligence. He described the danger of AI exponential growth but also the speculation of a digital feudalism in creating advantages for their models to expand; he focused on AI replication of data bias and the effect of human behavior.

Dongsei Kim, M.Des., assistant professor of architecture, will be serving as one of the co-chairs of the Korean Studies seminar, one of "The University Seminars" at Columbia University, beginning on September 21, 2023. The seminar series is an ongoing community of partnerships, each of which is constituted by scholars from multiple academic departments and disciplines, often including experts from outside academia, devoted to the study of an institution, practice, or issue of theoretical and practical importance.

Evan Shieh, M.AUD., assistant professor of architecture, and Dongsei Kim, M.Des., assistant professor of architecture, exhibited their collaborative proposal "Productive Han-Ga-Ram: the Han River as an Ecological & Cultural Madang (Frontyard)” at the 2023 Seoul Biennale of Architecture & Urbanism, on display from September 1 to October 29. The exhibition was created in collaboration with MMK+, Strange Works Studio, and Terrain Work. It aims to transform Seoul's Han River into a new central hub for the city by utilizing a kit-of-parts approach that adapts existing bridges and riverfronts. The result is a performative, productive, and social infrastructure that addresses the hydrological impacts of the climate crisis while sparking sociopolitical changes for the next 100 years in Seoul.

Evan Shieh, M.AUD., assistant professor of architecture, received New York Tech 2023 Presidential Excellence in Teaching Award for part time faculty at 2023 Convocation on August 31. The award recognizes a faculty member who has demonstrated a consistent dedication to teaching and to their students judged by quality of teaching and impact on student success and student learning.

Rozina Vavetsi, M.SC., associate professor and chair of the Department of Digital Art and Design, received the Graphis Silver Award in August 2023 for the poster "Celebrating 20 Years of SOURCE." Graphis publishes the world’s most prestigious annual volumes with award-winning work from international talents in design, advertising, art/Illustration, photography, and more. The Graphis Institute is dedicated to promoting and celebrating the most compelling work and has the most significant collection of creative excellence worldwide.

Evan Shieh, M.AUD., assistant professor of architecture, with Rahul Mehrotra of Harvard University, has edited and published Extreme Urbanism V: Exploring Hybrid Housing Typologies, on August 1, 2023. With design contributions from Harvard Graduate School of Design students, the publication explores strategies for the post-industrial transformation of Mumbai’s contested Eastern Waterfront.

Pablo Lorenzo-Eiroa, M.Arch., associate professor of architecture, was interviewed by La Opinion A Coruna, El Faro de Vigo, and multiple media, radio, and TV channels, including RTV Galicia in Spain in July 2023, discussing his recent book: Digital Signifiers on an Architecture of Information: From Big Data and Simulation to Artificial Intelligence. He discussed the weight of data and simulation on AI models for architecture and urbanism. In the different interviews, he focused on different aspects, from the necessity to regulate AI to how to implement AI for regional urban organization at policy levels.

Pablo Lorenzo-Eiroa, M.Arch., associate professor of architecture, was featured in an article by Taylor Mode, "Training Mode," part of Skyline|Midsummer Multitudes by Palmyra Geraki, published by New York Review of Architecture on July 14, 2023. Carrie Rubinstein, adjunct instructor of digital art and design, had her work "Brick Fiction" displayed at the Brooklyn Art Cluster gallery from June 16 - August 23, 2023, as part of the exhibition Regarding Time and Memory. In his review, Tyler Holter writes, "[t]he once-industrial space resonates with her paper creation. The first section, a nine-by-twelve-and-a-half-foot 'wall,' has interlocking panels with exposed layers: the brick, wallpaper, plaster; all done on paper, in slate gray watercolor, gouache, and India ink, with flashes of red. In the second section, a room takes shape as walls form a corner, capped with a wire-suspended ceiling. In minute detail, Rubinstein has sculpted electrical outlets, conduit, picture frames, light fixtures, and even breaker boxes with a functioning door. Her work meditates on our built surroundings, drawing on the material histories and even labor involved in the production of space."
