Old Westbury, NY – New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) has named Nada Marie Assaf-Anid, Ph.D., the dean of its School of Engineering and Computing Sciences. Dr. Anid comes to NYIT after a successful career at Manhattan College (N.Y.), where she was Chair and Graduate Program Director of the Chemical Engineering Department.

With more than 25 years of experience as an educator and administrator, Dr. Anid says she was attracted to NYIT's reputation of forward-thinking work in innovative technologies. "My goal is to create a sense of community and of renewed pride through a multi-pronged approach that will include alumni and community outreach, fundraising, research, marketing, global programs, and interdisciplinary activities," she says.

"Dr. Anid brings with her invaluable experience and creativity as an educator and researcher, particularly in alternative energy and sustainability. Her insightful and proactive agenda will provide new vision within the School of Engineering and Computing Sciences," says Richard Pizer, Ph.D., NYIT Provost and Vice President for Academic Programs.

In her new role, Dr. Anid will oversee 77 engineering and computing sciences full-time and adjunct faculty and approximately 1,700 graduate and undergraduate students across campuses located in New York City, Old Westbury, New York, the Middle East, and China.

The first female dean of NYIT's School of Engineering and Computing Sciences, Dr. Anid holds a Ph.D in environmental engineering from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor), and master and bachelor of science degrees in chemical engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology (Stockholm, Sweden). She serves on the boards of several professional organizations and has held leadership positions in the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and the American Society for Engineering Education among others.
