Old Westbury, NY – Nada Anid, Ph.D., dean of the School of Engineering and Computing Sciences at New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), received the Diamond Award from LISTnet, the Long Island Software & Technology Network. The award recognizes individuals whose contributions have advanced women in technology on Long Island.

Anid, who was selected for her commitment to educating women in technology as well as her professional achievements, received the award at LISTnet's TechMelt 2010 Technology Conference on Nov. 10 at the Garden City Hotel. Among the more than 300 people in attendance, were representatives of LISTnet-affiliated companies based on Long Island. Through collaborations with companies, LISTnet's objective is to promote Long Island as one of the national centers of excellence for software and technology solutions.

"The Diamond Award honors women who have reached the top in the tech world, so that their success might influence the next generation to go into the field of technology," said LISTnet President Peter Goldsmith. "Dr. Anid is one of the most accomplished women in technology on Long Island. She is a terrific role model for female students and a true inspiration to young women interested in science and technology."

Anid's advice to women is to "just forge along no matter what, always search for your inner strength, and believe in yourself. It's not easy because the very obstacle is that women are outnumbered—underrepresented is the reality of all women in technology."

Yet, Anid said, "a time will come when we won't have to give Diamond Awards because we will no longer have to distinguish between men's and women's achievements."
