Connect to New York Tech Wireless
This page contains all of the information you need to connect to New York Tech's WiFi network on the Long Island, New York City, and Vancouver campuses.
Connect your computer to the network:
Microsoft
STEP 1: Double-click on the wireless icon (signal strength indicator) and select the NYIT WiFi network from the list of open networks. Make sure the "Connect automatically" box is checked.
Please note: All students, faculty, and staff should use the NYIT WiFi, NYIT-Guest should only be used for visitors for temporary WiFi internet access.
STEP 2: A browser will open and you will need to follow the prompts to connect. You will be given three choices:
- Students, faculty, and staff – If you have a New York Tech username and password.
- Extended guest accounts – If you have set up an account with Information Technology Services (ITS).
- Gaming devices – If you are registering your console.
STEP 3: A Dissolvable Agent may download to scan your computer and verify that your anti-virus protection and operating system are valid and up-to-date. If your computer does not meet the above requirements, you will be provided a link to Sophos Home Free to resolve this issue. If your computer meets the above requirements, you will receive a message that your device is connecting to the network and a progress bar will launch indicating a successful registration.
STEP 4: Restart your machine
Apple

Connect your phone to the network:
Android
STEP 1: Tap on settings (gear icon) and select Connections from the list of Settings.
STEP 2: Tap WiFi next and select NYIT WiFi. It will check the quality of your internet connection.
Please note: All students, faculty, and staff should use the NYIT WiFi, NYIT-Guest should only be used for visitors for temporary WiFi internet access.
STEP 3: Exit to the home screen and tap on a browser. Go to nyit.edu and follow the prompts to connect. You will be given three choices:
- Students, faculty, and staff – If you have a New York Tech username and password.
- Extended guest accounts – If you have set up an account with Information Technology Services (ITS).
- Gaming devices – If you are registering your console.
You will then receive a message that your Android device is connecting to the network and a progress bar will launch indicating a successful registration.
iPhone
STEP 1: Tap settings (gear icon) and select WiFi from the list of Settings.
STEP 2: Tap on the information icon ("i" inside a circle) next to the NYIT WiFi to view it's settings. Make sure Private WiFi Address is turned off. Then tap on "Join This Network."
Please note: All students, faculty, and staff should use the NYIT WiFi, NYIT-Guest should only be used for visitors for temporary WiFi internet access.
STEP 3: Exit to the home screen and tap on Safari. Go to nyit.edu and follow the prompts to connect. You will be given three choices:
- Students, faculty, and staff – If you have a New York Tech username and password.
- Extended guest accounts – If you have set up an account with Information Technology Services (ITS).
- Gaming devices – If you are registering your console. You will then receive a message that your mac device is connecting to the network and a progress bar will launch indicating a successful registration.
Connect to the network as a guest:
Guest Windows OS devices
STEP 1: Double-click on the wireless icon (signal strength indicator) and select the NYIT-Guest WiFi network from the list of open networks. Make sure the Connect automatically box is not checked.
Please note: All students, faculty, and staff should use the NYIT WiFi, NYIT-Guest should only be used for visitors for temporary WiFi internet access.
STEP 2: A browser will open and you will need to follow the prompts to connect. You will need to provide accurate information to complete the process.
Please note: If you use an nyit.edu email address to register on the NYIT-Guest WiFi, you cannot access any New York Tech online resources from the NYIT-Guest WiFi network. Students, faculty, and staff who accidently register for the NYIT-Guest WiFi on your device, please manually disconnect the network and Forget This Network.
STEP 3: You will receive a text message with more information including a number code needed to complete the process. Once you entered the code, you will receive a message that your device is connecting to the network and a progress bar will launch indicating a successful registration.
Guest Mac OS devices
STEP 1: Double-click on the wireless icon (signal strength indicator) and select the NYIT GUEST WiFi network from the list of open networks. If you are connecting via an iPhone, make sure Private WiFi Address is turned off in the NYIT GUEST WiFi network settings.
