In accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), NYIT officials may provide information to a student's parents or legal guardians, without the student's consent, under certain circumstances, including the following:
- If it is determined that a student (under age 21) has committed a violation of law or the Student Code of Conduct, which involved the use or possession of alcohol or controlled substances;
- If NYIT determines that there is a significant threat to the health or safety of the student or other individuals;
- If a dependent student has been placed on suspension or expulsion.
