NYIT Appoints New Chief of Staff to Lead University Operations

Old Westbury and New York, NYPeter Kinney joins NYIT today as the new chief of staff to President Edward Guiliano, Ph.D.

A graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and Harvard University, Kinney won a Bronze Star for Valor during Operation Desert Storm in Iraq. He brings more than 20 years of experience in the U.S. Army, security operations and program management in the Middle East, and construction and real estate services in New York City.

Kinney will be working closely with President Guiliano to drive the growth and quality of NYIT.

Kinney comes to NYIT from the U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command, where he was a program manager for an annual $780 million service contract in Iraq. He also worked in the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Interior overseeing police operations in Abu Dhabi.

Previously, Kinney was the director of global emergency preparedness at the American International Group (AIG), and he served as a director and fund manager at the United States Military Academy at West Point.

Kinney directed restoration operations for the World Trade Center after the attacks of September 11, 2001. Before that, he was an Infantry Battalion Commander and Operations Officer from 1989 to 1994. There, he led an 800-man battalion, and conducted combat operations in Iraq during Operation Desert Storm. He received a Bronze Star for Valor.

Kinney received his master’s degree in public administration from Harvard University, an M.B.A. from Long Island University, and bachelor’s degree in engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point.
