Bernadette Riley, D.O., director of the Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS)/Hypermobility Treatment Center, is featured in a Newsweek story about EDS patients and their susceptibility to respiratory complications. As noted in the article, research published in 2022 found that almost 85 percent of EDS patients studied had signs of respiratory problems. Riley, who also researches the condition, explained that a systemic review she worked on showed “hematomas, hemoptysis, obstructive sleep apnea, and pneumothorax as some respiratory complications seen” among patients.
