New York Institute of Technology will cohost the upcoming NYXL (New York Excelsior) Student Night at OS NYC in Manhattan on February 7, an event where gamers can meet industry professionals and network with others interested in eSports. NYXL is one of the most successful eSports teams, which is operated by eSports organization Andbox, also home of the New York Subliners. Andbox was launched to transform the way people experience gaming culture in New York City.

ESports is one of the most popular sports on college campuses. New York Tech embraced the sport early on, launching the CyBears in 2017 and an eSports facility one year later.

Through its partnership with Andbox, New York Tech students will have the opportunity to learn from players, coaches, event organizers, and business executives through unique volunteer opportunities. In addition, the university will have premium branding placements at tournaments and events.

The partnership includes New York Tech Athletics and NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM). In 2019, NYITCOM’s Center for eSports Medicine published a study proving that eSports athletes face the same risk of injuries as other athletes. Through the new partnership, they will continue their research and advocacy for eSports athletes.

The university’s CyBears are becoming legends in their own right. In March 2019, they won the first-ever ECC League of Legends Championship, defeating Southern New Hampshire University.
