Scholarship Awarded to Interior Design Student

The International Interior Design Association’s New York Chapter (IIDA) has named the School of Architecture and Design’s Giuliana Grosso as one of three recipients of its third annual Hazel Sigel Scholarship, awarded to currently enrolled New York State undergraduate and graduate interior design students. Along with the scholarship, Grosso received a one-year IIDA student membership and an all-expense-paid, three-day trip to the IIDA Texas Oklahoma Chapter’s SHIFT conference in Dallas, Texas, held February 14 to 16.

Of the 37 applicants for this year’s scholarship, Grosso was among the three awardees selected for their community engagement, academic standing, design aspirations, perspectives on diversity, and post-graduation goals.

Grosso has taken part in IIDA New York’s Student Knowledge Forum Committee for the past three years and currently holds the role of student co-chair leader, where she partners with another student co-chair to facilitate group meetings and coordinate networking events. With a particular interest in integrating various disciplines into her design projects, such as applying music theory to enhance functional designs, her thesis centers on an environmentally conscious research facility paired with a museum. Preparing to graduate in 2024, she hopes to join a design firm committed to sustainability.

The scholarship honors the legacy of Hazel Siegel, an acclaimed textile designer and IIDA chapter member who held numerous leadership positions and received multiple honors during her 40 years of service to her chapter. Following her passing in 2020, IIDA NY initiated a program to honor her contributions to the industry. The scholarship celebrates Siegel’s legacy and the significant impact she made on the design community.
