Payroll
Payroll professionals will find that certification in the payroll field will build critical skills and advance their careers. New York Institute of Technology has partnered with the American Payroll Association (APA) to offer PayTrain Level 1 and 2 (formerly known as Fundamentals and Mastery courses). These courses provide the knowledge and skills needed for starting or advancing a payroll career and also help individuals prepare for the Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) and Certified Payroll Professional Certification (CPP) exams.
Payroll Courses
Payroll professionals can increase their knowledge of payroll compliance from a basic understanding to an advanced level by completing the PayTrain courses, which are offered in partnership with American Payroll Association. As a payroll professional, you know how important it is to maintain your company's compliance by keeping up with changing regulations and procedures. Staying current is important to your company's bottom line and to your career.

By completing a PayTrain course, you will gain:
- A foundation of knowledge for starting or advancing your payroll career
- Improved job performance by increasing accuracy and compliance
- Access to a network of peers to learn about payroll practices in other organizations
- Solid grounding in compliance issues related to tax and regulatory information
- Preparation for the Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) and Certified Payroll Professional(CPP) exams
- Recertification credit hours (RCHs) or continuing education units (CEUs) to maintain FPC or CPP* credentials
- A smart investment - if you do not pass your certification exam, you may attend our class the following semester for only a $225 re-registration fee, provided you still have the necessary materials.
PayTrain Fundamentals (formerly known as Paytrain Level 1)
PayTrain Fundamentals teaches the fundamental payroll calculations and applications necessary for individuals who are new to the payroll industry, those who support the payroll industry, and those who are preparing for the FPC or CPP certification examinations. This course will provide you with the basic knowledge and skills required to maintain payroll compliance and prevent costly penalties. These calculations are critical to successfully passing the FPC and CPP exams and are not covered in PayTrain Level 2. This course helps Payroll Professionals prepare for the Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) exam.
PayTrain (formerly know as Paytrain Level 2)
A continuation of PayTrain Level 1, PayTrain is a comprehensive course providing students with a solid understanding of advanced payroll topics necessary for payroll managers and supervisors. This course is ideal for experienced payroll professionals seeking compliance training, professional development, or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification preparation. To qualify for CPP certification, candidates must have earned three years of payroll experience in the five years prior to taking the exam. For success on the CPP exam, this course should be taken after completing PayTrain Level 1. We strongly encourage you to take the PayTrain Level 1 class or the KAC (Knowledge Assessment Calculator) Assessment test before you sign up for the PayTrain class. If you successfully complete this course and the Level 1 course you will receive a New York Tech and American Payroll Association certificate of completion.
As a student in the PayTrain Level 1 course, you will receive 30 hours of classroom instruction from a payroll expert, seven printed workbooks, interactive online quizzes, exercises, games, and learning tools. If you attend the PayTrain Level 2 course, you will receive 36 hours of classroom instruction from a payroll expert, seven printed workbooks, interactive online quizzes, exercises, games, and learning tools.
