New York, a global capital that’s home to Wall Street, Broadway, and everything in between, is the promised land for many potential MBA students, according to an article on FIND MBA. What are some of the factors that attract them to the location? "We've been very happy to see how large the small business and start-up community is here in the New York metro area," says Boronico, dean of NYIT's School of Management. "We run a number of conferences and seminars that are open to the entrepreneurial community here. Attendance is typically quite high at these events. It's a very well-connected community."

But students are drawn for intangible reasons as well.  "New York is considered the melting pot of the world. There's a tremendous set of opportunities that cut across global citizenship," says Boronico. "Anyone can find a home or opportunity there."

The transformation of Wilson Hall in Jonesboro to house NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine at Arkansas State University was the “proverbial milestone event” between NYIT and A-State, says NYIT President Edward Guiliano in the Jonesboro Sun (subscription required). “The practice of medicine is an awesome responsibility but we have a responsibility to educate our community,” added Dr. Barbara Ross-Lee at the Wilson Hall rededication event. The Wall Street Journal Publishes Beheshti Op-ed

Consumers are increasingly connected to the global Internet of Things through web-connected devices including Fitbits, connected vehicles, smart oil rigs, thermostats, and more. In an op-ed in today’s edition of The Wall Street Journal (subscription required), Babak Beheshti, associate dean of NYIT School of Engineering and Computing Sciences, warns that, when it comes to those devices, serious security precautions need to be taken.

“While many companies in the smart-home market have now taken serious security precautions, device companies need to educate their workforces and the public about the risks. Consumers must understand the importance of managing their passwords, installing security updates and safeguarding Wi-Fi networks,” he writes.

NYIT has been named a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the National Security Agency. In an article in Newsday(subscription required), Dean of NYIT’s School of Engineering and Computing Sciences Nada Anid, Ph.D., says the designation “will help NYIT faculty vie for an even greater number of research grants and help NYIT students to secure government and private-sector scholarships and careers in cyber defense.”

Dr. Barbara Ross-Lee in Insider Higher Ed on the Nation’s Physician Shortage

“It’s a phenomenal thing to do -- it helps students become better doctors,” says NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine Dean Wolfgang Gilliar in a WCBS-TV segment about body donations for anatomy education. The station covered NYITCOM’s annual ceremony at which students honor those who donated their bodies to science. “The students don’t know these donors but they learn so much from them,” says NYITCOM Anatomy Chair Jonathan Geisler, Ph.D. Several students expressed their gratitude toward the donors and praised them for their sacrifice.
