News Byte: Three Cheers for Programs That Improve Access to STEM

NYIT College of Engineering and Computing Sciences is a double winner in the INSIGHT Into Diversity 2020 Inspiring Programs in STEM Award, honored for its Girls in Engineering and Technology Day and Middle School Summer Academy: Technology and Engineering programs.

According to INSIGHT Into Diversity, the oldest and largest diversity magazine and website in higher education today, this award recognizes unique and innovative efforts for improving access to STEM for underrepresented students. “These exceptional programs are dedicated to introducing and encouraging students of all ages and at all levels of education to pursue exciting academic opportunities and careers in these vital disciplines. From pipeline programs for pre-K students to research support and career training for those working toward advanced degrees, this year’s award recipients exhibit the dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion that is the spirit of INSIGHT Into Diversity.”

In 2020, the magazine honored the College of Engineering and Computing Sciences along with other prestigious institutions, including Boston University, Carnegie Mellon, Georgia Tech, MIT, Purdue, and UT Austin. INSIGHT Into Diversity has long recognized New York Tech’s commitment to STEM, honoring the university from 2015-2017, including recognizing Nada M. Anid, Ph.D., and Brookshield Laurent, D.O., as inspiring women in STEM in 2015 and 2016, respectively.
