Kicking Off the School Year

August 31, 2016

Late August. The dog days of summer have come and gone. Back-to-school sales are in full swing, and students are returning to campus, registering for classes, and getting ready for the start of a brand new year. As the university ushers in the fall semester, a number of exciting new developments—new events, facilities, academic programs, and more—will greet the university’s 12,000 students, who this year represent all 50 states and 125 countries. These initiatives, combined with NYIT’s ongoing academic, career, and campus life programs, provide a supportive, transformative experience for all students—regardless of campus location.

In the coming weeks, NYIT will host many  events that bring students together, including welcome back gatherings, career services workshops, club and study abroad fairs, trips to local venues, academic department gatherings, and more. Learn about a few of them as well as key student resources below.

Global Campus Updates

NYIT-Vancouver: Students are invited to attend a Welcome Back reception on September 14 in the student lounge to find out about events, clubs, and new academic programs, such as the M.S. in Energy Management launching this fall. Visit the event calendar throughout the semester to learn more about co-curricular activities such as conferences, networking and career planning seminars, guest speakers, and trips to places like Whistler and Fraser Valley. Stay up-to-date on Vancouver activities on on our Facebook page.

NYIT-Abu Dhabi: New and returning students can take advantage of many activities, ranging from career fairs and lectures to bake sales to recreational events on and off campus. Discover what’s happening on campus on our Facebook page and learn what your classmates are up to—for example, seniors in the B.F.A. in Interior Design recently created thesis projects that served children with Down’s syndrome. Students will also notice that NYIT is everywhere; strategic advertising in locations such as the arrivals hall at Abu Dhabi International Airport have built a buzz that has brought growth to all of NYIT-Abu Dhabi’s programs.

NYIT-Beijing's student body has more than doubled to more than 200 and new faculty members have joined the program. Undergraduates in the Beijing programs will be welcomed back to campus on September 17.

NYITCOM at A-State: The inaugural cohort of medical students begins class at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro this fall. In August, NYITCOM faculty members, guest physicians, and physician-relatives of several students helped the students into their coats as they strode across the stage at A-State’s Riceland Hall.
