Yusupov Comments on GLP-1 Medications in Pop Culture

A Woman’s World article detailing the weight loss journey of actress and comedian Amy Schumer features insight from College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM) Assistant Professor and obesity medicine physician Eleanor Yusupov, D.O.

Schumer, who has admitted that weight loss drug Ozempic did not work for her, credits dropping pounds to another GLP-1 medication, Mounjaro. Yusupov says Schumer’s intolerance to Ozempic comes from having a specific protein, GDF15, produced by different cells in the body.

“[GDF15] plays a role in nausea and vomiting during pregnancy and other conditions,” she says, warning that “if symptoms persist despite dietary and lifestyle modifications or become severe, medication needs to be stopped.”

Similar coverage also appears in the Miami Herald, The Sacramento Bee, and the Tri-City Herald.
