Rossi: Why Swimming is One of the Best Exercises
Amerigo Rossi, Ed.D., associate professor of interdisciplinary health sciences, is featured in a SWIMMER Magazine article detailing the benefits associated with regular physical activity in a swimming pool. Along with being easy on the joints and reducing cortisol (stress hormone) levels, swimming’s “rhythmic breathing and weightlessness can reduce anxiety,” Rossi explains.
“Swimming is one of the best exercises for long-term health because it’s low impact, strengthens the entire body, maintains range of motion, and maintains cardiovascular health,” he says.
SWIMMER magazine is published by U.S. Masters Swimming, a nonprofit organization aimed at encouraging adults to take up swimming.
