Pediatrician Quoted in Newborn Safety Story
Today’s Parent featured insight from NYITCOM-Arkansas pediatrician and Assistant Professor Adam Hurst, M.D., in an article about newborn safety and the importance of choosing the right car seat. As Hurst explained, the world of baby car seats boils down to two main types: infant-only seats and convertible seats.
“For newborns, you can use either an infant-only seat or a rear-facing convertible car seat,” said Hurst. “The infant-only seat is designed to be rear-facing only, which is recommended until your child is at least two years old or reaches the maximum height or weight limit for the seat—often around 40 pounds.” Among other points, Hurst also noted that convertible car seats can be transitioned from rear-facing to forward-facing, making them a cost-effective pick for parents looking to get the most mileage out of one purchase.
