NYITCOM-Arkansas Scientist Featured in National News Outlets

As seen in Salon, People, MSN.com, AOL.com, and Yahoo.com, among other sites, Rajendram Rajnarayanan, Ph.D., assistant dean of research and associate professor at NYITCOM-Arkansas, shared insight on the COVID-19 variant NB.1.8.1, or “Nimbus.” Rajnarayanan, who manages a COVID-19 variant database, tells Salon that one of the mutations in Nimbus allows it to evade the immunity built from prior infections, making transmissibility slightly higher. However, there has not been any evidence yet to suggest that Nimbus is linked to more severe illness.

“We haven’t seen a big surge in emergency departments due to COVID-related conditions and respiratory things in this term yet,” Rajnarayanan told Salon. “We have to wait and watch.”
