Nutrition Expert: Cottage Cheese or Greek Yogurt?

September 22, 2025

Clinical Professor and Chair for the Department of Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Mindy Haar, Ph.D., RDN, is quoted in a Good Housekeeping article detailing the health benefits of cottage cheese and Greek yogurt. While both are rich in protein, calcium, vitamins, and minerals, the nutrition profile of each has slight differences, such as Greek yogurt typically containing less sodium.

“One thing to note is serving sizes are a little different,” Haar explains. “Cottage cheese is a half-cup. Yogurt is three-quarters of a cup.” Haar also noted that cottage cheese does actually melt, so it can be a great high-protein, lower-fat swap for other cheeses.
